Two officers and a suspect were injured during a gun battle Thursday morning in Huntington Beach, California. Authorities received a call at around 7 A.M., informing them about a man wielding a knife in the area of Delaware Street and Utica Avenue.

When officers arrived, a gun battle ensued between the suspect and the police, according to a statement from the Huntington Beach police.

The suspect and an officer were both struck during the shooting incident. They were both then transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Another officer was injured, but it isn’t confirmed whether or not he was also transported for treatment.

According to a Tweet from Orange County ABC reporter Greg Lee, more than one officer was shot during the gun battle. Lee reports that two officers were wounded while the suspect was shot. He reports that “all are in stable condition.”

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, two Campbell University students were killed in an automobile crash near the university on the evening of Wednesday, August 6.

Local authorities said the crash happened at about 5:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 421 in Harnett County when a car crashed into a Duke Energy truck. An investigation is currently underway.

The school said both of the students killed were men, however, their names have not yet been released.

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office informed Campbell University officials at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday that two students died as a result of a car accident that occurred this afternoon. The accident appears to be weather related.

Campbell officials ask for prayers for the family and friends of the students and for patience as the Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation. Counselors, chaplains and ministers are available to meet with students who would like to speak with someone.

The University will not release the names of the students until their families have been notified. We will have more information on the accident and the University’s response early Thursday.

China is set to spend 400 million yuan (£47 million) building a simulation base of Mars to conduct research and give locals a chance to see what living on the red planet would be like. Scientists will visit the base in Qinghai province to practice conducting experiments in similar conditions. It comes as the country rushes ahead with its plans to send probes to Mars by 2020 with bigger plans to send humans to the planet after

The site will house a scientific research base and eco-tourism site. The village will be based in Qinghai province of which 95,000 square kilometres is a desert with lack of vegetation. Video footage posted by state media show the site in which the base will be built.

According to Xinhua, the red rock area in Qaidam Basin in western Qinghai has been often referred to as the ‘most martian place on earth’.

Liu Xiaooqun, from the moon and deep-space exploration department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said on Tuesday: ‘As China’s only Mars science and recreation base, we hope it will focus on the scientific theme of space exploration.’

Authorities have arrested two suspects and are searching for the gunman in an August 9th shooting in the parking lot of Frisco’s Stonebriar Centre in Arlington, Texas. Police have issued a warrant out to arrest 18-year-old London Lane, who is the suspected shooter and is thought to be in Arlington.

Officer Ryan Chandler reported that the shooting occurred at about 6:15 P.M. in the lot by the Nordstrom, near Gaylord Parkway. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital to treat a gunshot wound.

Two suspects were arrested as a result of the shooting.

Jessica Lawson, 19, of Arlington, was apprehended by police three days later. Authorities say that Lawson was a passenger in the vehicle that fled away after the shooting (with the gunman inside).

Treshun Symone Miller, 18, of Arlington, was also arrested. Miller fled Texas, but was still caught by police. He is currently being held on $101,000 bail at Collin County Jail. He has been charged with aggravated robbery and marijuana possession. Authorities believe he was the getaway driver during the August shooting in the parking lot of Frisco’s Stonebriar Centre.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Frisco police at 972-292-6010. Tips may also be sent by texting the tip and FRISCOPD to 847411, or through the Frisco Police Department app.

Zander Venezia, a 16-year-old professional, died while catching a wave in Barbados during Hurricane Irma, the World Surf League said.

According to the World Surf League, Venezia, a Barbados native, reportedly fell off his surfboard and hit a shallow reef at a beach called Box by Box.

The report says that Venezia and other surfers were riding a swell generated by the Category Five Hurricane Irma on Tuesday, September 5.

An autopsy revealed that the teen was knocked unconscious by the fall from his board and then drowned. Instructor Alan Burke told Surfline that Zander was knocked over by a “close out set” , which is “a wave that closes in from both sides.”

We are shocked and saddened to report that Zander Venezia, a budding young pro surfer from Bridgetown, Barbados, died today after surfing a particularly heavy session at a notoriously nasty wave on Barbados’ east coast. While the family waits for an official autopsy, it is believed that Zander possibly broke his neck upon hitting the shallow reef.

After getting his fair share of big barrels all morning, the 16-year-old got caught by a closeout set, which drove him into the shallow, rocky bottom. Bleeding and unresponsive, he was pulled out of the water by Nathan Florence, who was among a cadre of pros who flew over to Barbados to catch the mega-swell currently being generated by Hurricane Irma.

“Horrible news,” original Bajan pro-turned-surf instructor Alan Burke told Surfline. “I feel empty, we are in shambles over here. I wasn’t there [at the spot], but my wife has been with the Venezia family at the hospital.”

Nathan Florence, who was surfing wit Venezia in Barbados, was the first to start performing CPR.

“Zander was bleeding, and he wasn’t moving. They tried to get him to the beach quickly, which was very difficult,” Burke said. “Box by Box is a tough place to get in and out of, even if you have the ability. There’s lots of big rocks around, and some stick out of the water.”

Miami-Dade county officials are expecting the worst after Hurricane Irma swept through Puerto Rico with 180 mph sustained winds.  Officials are expecting that Category 5 hurricane to greatly damage the Miami-Dade area, so they have ordered mandatory evacuations for Zone A and Zone B barrier islands. All Miami-Dade schools have cancelled class and closed down for at least Thursday and Friday.

Communities were ordered to evacuated as of 7 a.m. Thursday morning Miami-Dade issued the following statement pressing upon the necessity to evacuate.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has issued a mandatory evacuation order for mobile homes, residents of Zone A, and the Barrier Islands, which include: Bal Harbour, Bay Harbour Islands, Golden Beach, Indian Creek Village, Miami Beach, North Bay Village, Sunny Isles Beach and Surfside. This order is effective as of 7 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017. All residents are advised to remain calm and to stay tuned to radio and television broadcasts for further advisories. Evacuees should move as soon as possible to the homes of friends or family who live outside of evacuation areas.

Miami is currently under a Hurricane Watch and a Storm Surge Watch in anticipation of Irma. Check out the map below at the Storm Surge Planning Zone. This map will determine when and if you need to evacuate.

Miami-Dade County

The Miami Herald reports that we may be seeing the first major evacuation of Miami-Dade County in 12 years. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez had said that he would issue evacuation orders to the public as soon as late Wednesday or early Thursday. But even before that, his staff was already preparing residents for evacuation in light of a coastal flood threat. Yesterday, Gimenez informed his Twitter followers that a number of shelters had opened up in the area for people fleeing and seeking shelter from the impending Hurricane Irma.

Hurricane Irma 2017: Miami-Dade County Evacuation Zones

The zones closest to the coast (Zones A and B) will be the first areas to be evacuated under the planned orders. The Herald notes that more areas may be ordered to evacuated soon if the necessity arises.

Most of Coastal Miami-Dade (Zone A) has been ordered to evacuate, while Miami Beach (Zone B) has been ordered to do the same. What to see if your home falls within one of these two zones? Click here and type in your address on the upper left corner and find out if you will need to evacuate.

“This is a powerful storm which poses a serious threat to our area. We will be taking some extraordinary actions to ensure that the residents of Miami-Dade County are safe,” Gimenez said on Tuesday. “I would rather inconvenience our residents on this occasion than suffer any unnecessary loss of life if we are hit by Hurricane Irma.”

Local10 reports that shelters have already opened up for those in need, and evacuations for those in special need will start on Wednesday. County offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has asked tourists to leave the area before Irma hits. The mayor told the public that shelters should only be seen as a last resort and police won’t be checking in on residents to assure that evacuation orders have been met.

Gimenez held off on ordering a Mandatory Evacuation until at least late Wednesday. Residents living on barrier islands and low-lying areas may be asked to leave before the hurricane arrives.

Hurricane Irma is shaping up to be a real monster, as this Category 5 storm is barreling through the Atlantic with sustained winds up to 185 mph (currently around 175 mph). The storm tore through the Caribbean, greatly affecting small island-based nations such as Barbados, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. The death toll of Irma has risen to 11 causalities so far. The storm is expected to head over to South Florida late this week or into the weekend. Miami-Dade has already ordered evacuations in preparation of Hurricane Irma.

The storm has slowed down its pace. It was once spewing sustained winds as high as 185 mph. But now the Category 5 hurricane has reduced its wind speed to about 175 mph. But those winds are still incredibly dangerous and damaging, as Irma ransacked Barbados, leaving roughly 90 percent of the nation’s buildings in a damaged state.

But back to tracking Irma. Below are some national and local feeds of the active hurricane. Some of these feeds may go down periodically, so I will update these videos accordingly. Check back for updates and look below to keep better track of Irma.

The Kansas City Chiefs travel to Foxboro to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots to kick off the 2017 NFL season.

Coming off his 5th Super Bowl championship, Tom Brady heads into his 18th season as the Patriots quarterback as a 40-year-old. Only one other quarterback has won a playoff game at age 40 or older and that was Brett Favre in 2010.

Not being satisfied with completing the greatest Super Bowl comeback of all-time, the Patriots won the offseason as well, adding a boatload of talent across the board — perhaps suggesting they believe this will be Brady’s last season. On offense, the Pats added tight end Dwayne Allen from the Colts, lightning quick receiver Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints, Rex Burkhead, and Mike Gillislee. On defense, New England snatched up cornerback Stephon Gilmore in free agency, snagged David Harris after the Jets cut him, and resigned their own corner, Malcom Butler.

As for the Chiefs, they head into the 2017 season coming off a 12-4 season that saw them win the AFC West. Despite drafting talented young quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the first round of the NFL Draft, Alex Smith is still the Chiefs starting quarterback.

While the Chiefs were one of the AFC’s best teams last season, they will be no match for the Patriots at home, who have won nine of their last 10 season openers, including eight in a row. Despite the loss of Julian Edelman, the Patriots are as loaded as they’ve ever been on both offense and defense. We like the Pats tonight, 30-14.

New Hurricane Irma “spaghetti models” were just recently, projecting the path of this monstrous Category 5 storm. These models provide a bit of good news for most of Florida, but not so much for South Carolina and Georgia. Today’s spaghetti models shows that Irma on an eastward path, traveling up the east coast of Florida (and not running through the center) before reaching land once more in South Carolina. Georgia is also in danger of receiving Irma’s wrath, according some of the spaghetti maps from September 7.

Hurricanes can be very unpredictable. Therefore, these spaghetti models are only projections, and it’s possible for the hurricane to go off course and inflict greater unexpected damage. Both the Florida and South Carolina governors have declared a state of emergency in their respective states. Meanwhile, Georgia’s Governor Nathan Deal had a declared a state of emergency in 30 counties.

Click here for the Cyclocane hurricane tracker. The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) has also proved their own Hurricane Irma spaghetti models.

Spaghetti models don’t capture a storm’s incredible unpredictably.

What Are Spaghetti Models?

Spaghetti Models (also referred to as spaghetti plots) is a nickname attached to computer models that project potential tropical cyclone paths. When the paths coverage, the model looks like multiple strings of spaghetti.

Explained The Washington Post: “Usually, each ‘strand of spaghetti’ is not representative of a unique model. Instead, the entire bowl of noodles is data churned out by the same weather model. Each noodle is called an ensemble member. When a weather model produces a forecast, it has to initialize the data, taking in current conditions to get an idea of what the atmosphere is already doing on a three-dimensional grid.”

As Hurricane Irma tears through the Caribbean and sets its sights on the continental United States, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has reacted by issuing a mandatory evacuation notice to coastal Georgia. Gov. Deal has ordered all areas east of I-95, some areas west of I-95, and all of Chatham County including Savannah to be evacuated, as of Thursday.

“The state is mobilizing all available resources to ensure public safety ahead of Hurricane Irma,” said Deal. “I encourage all Georgians in our coastal areas that could be impacted by this storm to evacuate the area as soon as possible. Beginning Saturday, a mandatory evacuation order will take effect for Chatham County, all areas east of I-95 and some areas west of I-95 that could be impacted by this catastrophic hurricane and storm surge. GEMA/HS continues leading our preparedness efforts as we coordinate with federal, state and local officials to safely evacuate the coastal areas, provide public shelter and minimize the disruption of traffic. Finally, I ask all Georgians to join me in praying for the safety of our people and all those in Hurricane Irma’s path.”

Gov. Deal has also issued a “state of emergency” for 30 counties in Georgia. The following counties are under a state of emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Irma: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Echols, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Glynn, Jenkins, Jeff Davis, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Screven, Tattnall, Toombs, Treutlen, Wayne and Ware Counties.

If you’re in Georgia than you probably should take special notice of this match. As previously mentioned, people in all areas east of I-95, some areas west of I-95, and all of Chatham County including Savannah have been ordered to evacuate per the orders of the state’s governor.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency announced the following campgrounds will be made available for those fleeing Hurricane Irma in the area…

West Point Lake: Holiday campground will be open to those who are seeking shelter from the storm. If you want to register for a campsite, then you’ll have that taken of at the Holiday campground gatehouse. Although, it’s not required, it’s recommended to call Holiday campground in advance at the number provided: 706.884.6818. The address for the campground is 954 Abbottsford Road, LaGrange, Georgia 30240. Please provide some form of identification to prove that you reside in an area that has been/will be affected by Hurricane Irma.

Atlanta Motor Speedway: Camping facilities will be offered free of charge for evacuees seeking shelter from the impending storm. Only unreserved camping facilities will be offered for free. The speedway will be open to evacuees as early as Thursday. Those who chose to stay at Atlantic Motor Speedway will be offered free access to hot showers and restroom facilities at the Rinnai Shower Station camper bath house. Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter: If you need a safe place to store your horse then stop by the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter. But space is limited, so people are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Absolutely no reservations will be permitted. Owners are required to provide all the common necessities for their horse while there, including hay, feed, and tack to tend to their horses.

We have been waiting since February of 2016 for this moment. Football season has arrived! Opening day, the defending Super Bowl Champions, the New England Patriots, face the Kansas City Chiefs in at Gillette Stadium.

Pregame

With questions surrounding how the Patriots will perform without their reliable running back, Legarrette Blount and star wide receiver Julian Edelmen, the team would like to prove to the world that they are ready to make another run to the big stage. While they did lose two of their better players, the team compensated by receiving Rob Gronkowski who recovered from injury. Tom Brady playing at age 40 still looks 30; as his throwing ability has not been undermined.

On the other side, the Kansas City Chiefs still are one of the top teams in the NFL. Unfortunately, with Jamal Charles not returning, there may be some issues with their running game. However, the team still has Tyreke Hill at wide receiver and Alex Smith at quarterback. However, the breakout option for the team is their defense. Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs lead the league in interceptions, pass deflections and fumble recoveries.

And the coin flip goes to…The New England Patriots.

First Quarter

Tom Brady throws to Allen who is wide open. However the ball is to high and misses it.

White is handed the ball and get she 1st down.

White runs it to the 30.

Tom Brady throws to Amendola at the 15 yard line.

Tom Brady gets a pass interference call moves them to the 1 red zone.

I think this game may be a blow out.

Patriots run it in but a holding flag is called.

9 plays for a touchdown for the New England Patriots.

Score is 7-0.

Alex Smith hands to Kareem Hunt and first play fumbles it.

Tom Brady throws to Gronkowski for a touchdown however is under review.

Pass was reversed and it is incomplete.

Chiefs get the ball back at the 9 yard line. Score is still 7-0.

They run a trick play and have Travis Kelce call for the snap and get a first down.

Hunt runs again and gains yards. 3 rushes for 25 yards. He looks like he shook off the fumble.

Chiefs are 2nd and goal.

Chiefs score. Harris looks like a basketball player. He boxed out his defender like a forward in the NBA.

Score is 7-7.

New England kicks a field goal.

Alex Smith is sacked on 3rd down and will turnover the ball.

Tom Brady throws it deep however a flag was missed. No pass interference.

Second Quarter

Tom Brady gets the ball in 1st and goal with the holding call.

Mike Gillislee rushes in for a touch down.

Score is 7-17

Alex Smith loses his footing as he falls and gets sacked.

Hunt scores his first NFL touchdown. Score is 14-17

Third Quarter

Tyreke Hill receives a bomb from Alex Smith for 75 yards. Its called a touchdown to take the lead. Score is 21-17

Score is till 21-17. Kansas City Chiefs ball.

Hightower is slow to get up and appears to be injured.

Mike Gillislee rushes for a touchdown for Patriots. Score is 24-21

Tom Brady throws the ball over the line of scrimmage. Patriots kick a field goal and the score is 27-21

Fourth Quarter

Hunt catches a deep ball from Alex Smith. Score is 28-27

Currently, the storm is on its way to the Bahamas and the northern coast of Cuba. The storm is also swinging towards the tourist destination of Turk and Caicos. Expect plenty of ring and very strong wind the area. By Saturday, Irma is predicted to finally make landfall in the United States.

Speaking of the U.S., many people are relying upon the United State’s GFS model as well as Europe’s ECMWF model. Both models have shown similar and contrasting predictions for Irma’s path. But by 2 P.M. European model update, which displayed a deep contrast between both model system in projecting the storm’s predicted path.

The state of Florida, in particular, has been on red alert since Monday, as it prepares for the storm. Many are looking for all the various models projecting the trajectory of Irma, whether it’s the GFS, ECMWF or the spaghetti model.

“The US analog to the European model is the Global Forecast System. It has a lower resolution, and it typically doesn’t perform quite as well. However, this GFS model has some benefits: it runs four times a day, and NOAA freely makes the data available to anyone who wants it,” reports Ars Technica.

Here’s the latest ECMWF European model providing a graphic and video (as of September 7; 2:00 P.M. EST):

Ars Technica of the ECMWF says,”This forecast system has superior hardware to run its calculations. But more importantly, it has a method by which it better assimilates real-world data—observations from weather networks around the world, atmospheric soundings, reconnaissance aircraft, and much more—into its calculations.”

Rebecca Goerdel, a 28-year-old special education teacher in Texas, was indicted for allegedly soliciting an eighth-grade student.

Goerdel, a special education teacher at the Young Men’s Leadership Academy of Kennedy Middle School in Grand Prairie in Texas, was arrested on March 11 after she was reported to police.

According to reports, administrators accused Goerdel of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an unidentified student at the school. The arrest warrant states that Goerdel sat on the student’s lap in her car and they made out, however, they never had sexual intercourse.

The warrant alleges that the inappropriate relationship started in January 2017, when Goerdel allegedly sent the student a photo of her as she was lying naked in a tanning bed.

An arrest warrant alleges that Geordel “sat on his lap in her car and they made out,” but never had sex, according to an arrest warrant. The warrant alleges that the relationship began when Goerdel sent a photo of herself naked in a tanning bed to the student and asked him to draw a portrait of her in January.

Police later discovered sexually explicit text conversations between Goerdel and the student, some of which came from “third party apps that have since been deleted.” On March 11, an officer texted Goerdel from the student’s phone and she responded asking him to spend the night with her.

Goerdel never returned to the classroom after her arrest earlier this year.

Grand Prairie school district released a statement on Goerdel’s arrest:

“We are pleased that law enforcement has doggedly pursued this matter and that Goerdel is being held responsible for her conduct. The safety of our students is among the highest priorities of the Grand Prairie Independent School District and that starts in the classroom. We believe the teacher-student relationship is sacred. It reflects a vow from teachers to parents that their children are safe — as safe as they would be at home. When a teacher in Grand Prairie ISD breaks that vow, he or she will be dealt with quickly and aggressively.”

According to Columbus, Ohio police, a suspect was arrested after reports of a shooter at Columbus-Scioto High School on Friday morning. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Columbus police say a gun was recovered and that no one was injured.

Columbus City School administrators say that students and staff are safe but are asking parents not to come to the school at this time.

That is all the information available at this time.

So, the New England Patriots got their asses handed to them in the season opener and approximately no one saw it coming. I certainly didn’t as I took the Pats -8.5. But my crappy gambling habit is not what we ‘re talking about here — we’re here to talk about the Patriots getting diddled on national television by the Kansas City Chiefs and the memes it produced, most notably, angry Tom Brady.

With the realization of both the loss and that playing to age 45 may not be as easy as he thought, Brady appeared to be angrily staring into the ether with about two minutes to go in the fourth quarter, spawning whats now known as Angry Tom Brady.

While one game is certainly too early to jump to any conclusions about the Patriots, something was definitely off about Brady last night. Could it be first game rust, or maybe the loss of Julian Edelman? Definitely. But there’s also the chance that Brady finally met his match — father time.

In all likelihood, though, the Patriots go 12-4 and at the very least, play in the AFC Championship game.

Kevin Sumlin, head coach of Texas A&M’s football team, came into the season squarely on the hot seat, and that was BEFORE his Aggies blew a 34-point lead at UCLA in the season opener. So while questions about his job security are certainly warranted, actions like this one are not, no matter the circumstances.

Charlene Sumlin, Kevin’s wife, took to Twitter to share the despicable racist hate mail that her husband received following their week one defeat. She wrote in the tweet: “People of 2017: please tell me how any part of this is ok. And to the sender: did it occur to you that a child may open it? #orelseWHAT?”

As for the letter itself, it read:

“You suck as a coach! You’re a n***er and can’t win! Please get lost! Or else.”

The letter contained a return address that corresponds to Houston Country Club, in Houston. One of Sumlin’s daughters, Shelby — a current student at Texas A&M — later commented on the photo, tweeting: “Imagine being a kid & reading this bs abt your dad. Things ‘fans’ say gets taken personal by more than just the coach. Humanity isn’t hard.”

Kevin Sumlin has faced heavy criticism since Texas A&M’s season-opening loss Sunday at UCLA, in which the Aggies blew a 34-point, third-quarter lead. Texas A&M regent Tony Buzbee called for Sumlin’s immediate dismissal in a Facebook post he published shortly after the game.

On Tuesday, Sumlin acknowledged the frustration both within and outside the program, but added, “I’m not in the business of really paying attention to anything outside this program, or comments good or bad. My focus is on what we can do to be better. I don’t really have time to get involved in things that are said about the program or about me.”

Just gross.

Destiny 2’s main game has been out less than a week and already the next plans in the Destiny world are out in the wild. Rumors has been swirling around the downloadable content (DLC) recently after reports that it would take place on the planet of Mercury. Now, after a recent leak on the Xbox Store, we have finally learned that the first Destiny 2 DLC will indeed take place on Mercury.

Titled: Destiny 2 – Expansion I: Curse of Osiris, the DLC will follow players as they “journey through time and space to learn the secrets of Osiris, avert a dark future, and rebuild the ties between the legendary Warlock and his greatest student–Ikora Rey,” the pack’s description reads. The character of Osiris has been teased since the first Destiny but this will be the first time fans can finally see the famed Warlock.
