A double shooting occurred at a gas station in Kissimmee, Florida, this Wednesday morning. Two people have been hospitalized and one man is behind bar and is facing charges of attempted murder.

Verne Gomez, 53, is currently in police custody. He is accused of shooting two people outside a gas station at the corner of Dyer Blvd. and Columbia Ave. just after 8 A.M. The shooting is reported to have taken place this Wednesday morning in the town of Kissimmee. Police say that the suspect is the female victim’s husband.

“That was a surprise to us. We had no idea that he had a firearm or where he would have gotten one,”  said Menisha Bonelli, the suspect’s family member.

Bonelli and her family reportedly have a tough time coming to grips with the fact that Verne Gomez has been arrested and accused of attempted murder on his wife.

“He got upset and lashed out and took it out in a bad way,” said Bonelli.

Kissimmee police said that the suspect (Gomez) arrived at a Sunoco Food Mart shortly after 8 A.M. on Wednesday. Several shots were reportedly at that location (at the corner of West Columbia Avenue and Dyer Boulevard). Several shots were fired. The store manager spoke with ESH 2 News and claims that the whole scene was caught on surveillance camera, and that footage has been handed over to detectives.

Authorities report that Gomez’s wife has been hospitalized and is currently in critical condition. Meanwhile, the second victim is an Uber driver who received a non-life-threatening wound.

Police responded to the shooting with a show of force. Squad cars and armed officers descended upon the neighborhood near Michigan Avenue and Boulder Drive, where the suspect lives. But Gomez was nowhere to be found.

Relatives of the suspect have said that Gomez and his wife have been arguing lately.

“I know they had some issues in their marriage and they may have been separating, so that’s probably the case,” Bonelli said. “None of us knew that he was capable or even had the means to carry out something like this.”

Officers were able to catch up with the suspect early Wednesday afternoon. Verne Gomez has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind today’s violence.

He called up the prayer hotline with his signature Rick Sanchez voice. And let’s just say he wasn’t looking for Mulan schezwan sauce this time.

Rick Sanchez was looking for Joel Osteen. He wanted to send a prayer out to Osteen. But all he received was this receptionist who began speaking in tongues mid-way through the conversation. Rick wasn’t sure if this was a prayer line or a call about pralines, a type of nut (quite fitting actually).

Sanchez wanted to give Osteen over $83,000. The fictional scientist also wanted to know why the millionaire televangelist didn’t open up his church to any of the flood victims, maybe he didn’t them getting his fancy carpet dirty. The receptionist just tells him to “call back tomorrow” and continues speaking in tongues.

By the end of the call, Rick Sanchez has the receptionist cracking up. It’s a schwifty good time!

A new hurricane popped up in the Atlantic Wednesday afternoon. Hurricane Katia is a Category 1 storm that graduated to hurricane status only hours after being named a tropical storm. This swirling giant can be found in the southwest Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is threatening to head over mainland Mexico tomorrow. Katia is currently about 185 miles northeast of the Mexican state of Veracruz, which is under hurricane watch. The Category 1 storm is currently moving southwest at 3 mph as of 4 P.M. Wednesday afternoon. Katia has reached sustained winds of 75 mph.

“Little overall motion is anticipated through tonight, but a southwestward drift should begin tomorrow,” according to the NHC.

Katia is the 11th named storm of the Hurricane season.

Hurricane Katia is expected to send 5-10 inches of rainfall over northern Veracruz, as well as 2-5 inches over southern Veracruz, southern Tamaulipas and northeast Puebla through early Saturday.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Jose is another hurricane that has formed in the Atlantic. Jose is roughly 1,000 miles west of the Caribbean.

But let’s get back to Katia. According to Mexico’s National Meteorological Service, this Category 1 hurricane is expected to hit the state of Veracruz Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Katia is not expected to move northward into Hurricane Harvey affected territory, as a dry patch of air over Texas and Louisiana prevents this passage. According to a projected path by the National Hurricane Center, Katia is expected to pass through Veracruz and move onto Mexico’s mainland.

Mexico’s president President Enrique Peña Nieto made an announcement on Twitter, proclaiming that he had already began  coordinating emergency preparedness.

President Nieto’s Twitter message translate to: “I have given instructions to activate #PlanMX in the face of Hurricane #Katia. The objective: to coordinate the preventive actions of @GobMX.”

Good luck with that upcoming hurricane Mexico. Florida and much of the Caribbean already have a lot to worry about with Hurricane Irma, the strongest hurricane to ever hit the Atlantic Basin…

Yet another hurricane is picking up strength in the Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane Jose is a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained wind gusts near 85 mph. For the first time since 2010, there are three hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean: Irma, Katia, and Jose.

Hurricane Jose graduated from tropical storm status Wednesday afternoon when sustained winds picked up to 75 mph. The storm is expected to pick up even more within the next 48 hours.

Jose is officially the 10th named storm of hurricane season, followed by Katia who comes in at #11.

Jose is not expected to travel in the same direction as Hurricane Irma. However, Jose is expected to pick up even more speed and strength. According to WCVB, Jose is expected to graduate from Category 1 status all the way up to a Category 3 heavyweight, with winds predicted to be up to 115 mph.

The hurricane is currently moving at a speed of 13 mph. Jose is expected to move westward this week, and may move near or north of the Leeward Islands. The storm is currently over 1,200 miles away from these islands. But the storm’s path sees it passing by the islands, particularly the northern portion.

“The northern Leeward Islands are at risk of contending with enhanced showers and tropical-storm-force conditions this weekend, which could hinder Irma recovery efforts,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Rob Miller said.

There have been no coastal watches or warnings issued for Hurricane Jose so far.

Yesterday, Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowl and Super Bowl champion defensive lineman Michael Bennett took to Twitter to detail an incident he was involved with during the night of the McGregor-Mayweather fight in Las Vegas.

According to Bennett, a Las Vegas police officer drew his weapon and threatened to “blow my f*cking head off.” While TMZ Sports was able to obtain footage arrest, the video does not show this alleged instance, as the video begins when Bennett is already in handcuffs.

TMZ Sports has obtained video of NFL superstar Michael Bennett being handcuffed by police while lying face down on the concrete in Las Vegas … and you can hear him screaming that he’s innocent.

Sources connected to the investigation tell TMZ Sports … when cops responded to the club for a possible shooting, they ordered everyone to get down and not move so they could properly search and investigate.

We’re told Bennett did not stay put — instead, he ran — and a cop outside the club stopped him and ordered him down to the ground at gunpoint. Our sources say Bennett was detained until cops could determine he was not involved in any possible criminal activity … and he was released.

Civil rights attorney John Burris, who was hired by Bennett, is considering filing a civil rights lawsuit.

Burris released the following statement:

“Mr. Bennett was face down on the ground when a Las Vegas Police officer placed his gun at the back of Mr. Bennett’s head and shouted don’t move or I’ll blow your fucking head off. Bennett was in total compliance and scared for his life when a second officer for no apparent reason forcefully dug his knee into Mr. Bennett’s back making it difficult for him to breathe. Terrified and frightened, Mr. Bennett continuously asked the Officers why they were arresting him and he tried to remind them that he had rights.”

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department have yet to comment.

Kimberley Paige Barnette, a mayoral candidate in Charlotte, North Carolina, is facing backlash after she listed being “white” as one of her qualifications.

Barnette, a 53-year-old former Mecklenburg County magistrate judge running for office for the first time, wrote on her Facebook profile description that she was “REPUBLICAN & SMART, WHITE, TRADITIONAL”.

The description quickly drew ire on social media, as The North Carolina Republican Party quickly distanced themselves from Barnette.

According to the Charlotte Observer, A newcomer to elective politics, Barnette, served as a magistrate in Mecklenburg County twice, from 1987-1995 and again from 2003-2013. Before her candidacy, Barnette worked as an associate at the Amazon warehouse in Charlotte.

Then, following two lines that included her name and “Mayor of Charlotte 2017” was a description of herself, in four capitalized words: “REPUBLICAN & SMART, WHITE, TRADITIONAL”

The description, which appeared at the top of her Facebook profile, quickly drew angry responses on social media, the Charlotte Observer reported. The North Carolina Republican Party also has distanced itself from the little-known candidate.

North Carolina GOP Chairman Robin Hayes released a statement about Barnette’s action:

“The Charlotte mayoral contest will be decided based on who can best promote public safety, provide economic development, and improve critical infrastructure needs. This contest will not be decided based on the skin color of the candidates. Any suggestion that a candidate is more or less qualified for political office based on their skin color alone, offensive to North Carolina Republicans and we condemn it. This type of suggestion has no place in our public discourse.”

Taking time out of his famously busy schedule (literally the hardest working dude in show business) the Rock met with 10-year-old Jacob O’Connor.

O’Connor, who is from Detroit, made headlines in July when saved his two-year-old brother Dylan from drowning. Jacon he walked into his back ard to find his brother Dylan face down in the swimming pool. Jacob then used emergency care that he learned from The Rock’s character in San Andreas. Like I said, only The Rock.

On Tuesday, the actor shared photos and a video of himself with 10-year-old Jacob O’Connor, a Michigan boy who rescued his younger brother from drowning using techniques he learned from the Johnson’s film, “San Andreas.”

Johnson invited Jacob; his mother, Christa O’Connor; and his brother Gavin to visit him on a Vancouver movie set, where he treated them to a table full of chocolate and other sweets.

Last month ABC affiliate WXYZ in Detroit reported that on July 25, Jacob gave chest compressions to his 2-year-old brother, Dylan, who had fallen into his grandmother’s pool. The child told the TV station that he knew what to do after watching Johnson’s character in “San Andreas” help a drowning person.

All in all, this is just further proof that Johnson is not only the leader we deserve, but the one we need right now.

Evanston Township High School, an Illinois high school, has overhauled their dress code to “promote body-positivity and self-expression.” According to the school, the new dress code is 100% gender-neutral and allows clothing that was previously banned, such as leggings and tank tops.

Evanston Township High School’s new dress code, which will take effect this fall semester, now allows hoodies, hats and spaghetti straps as permitted clothing. Furthermore, the dress code specifically points out that “fitted pants, including opaque leggings, yoga pants and skinny jeans’ are fine to be worn by students of any gender.”

Similarly, staff members at Evanston Township High School are being trained to explain the rules with “a body-positive tone” and are “no longer allowed to shame students by measuring their straps or skirt lengths, or accusing them of distracting others with their clothing.”

According to TODAY, Evanston Township High School says that the new dress code was written so that it does not “reinforce stereotypes and does not reinforce or increase marginalization or oppression of any group based on race, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, household income or body type/size.”

A group of five Iowa high school students are facing discipline after they posted a racist photo on social media.

Five Creston Community High School students in southern Iowa have been punished after a photo of them wearing KKK hoods, burning a cross and waving a Confederate flag went viral on social media.

Jeff Bevins, the assistant principal at Creston Community High School, said the students would be disciplined, however, because they are minors, would not reveal the extent of the punishment.

In the picture, one of the unidentified teens can be seen holding a rifle, while another is shirtless. All the individuals in the photo appear to be male students. Behind the group is a burning cross, a symbol frequently used by the Ku Klux Klan.

The photo started circulating on social media on Wednesday morning. In the photo five people can be seen wearing KKK-style white hoods while burning a cross and holding a Confederate flag. One of the boys in the photo is also holding a rifle. Creston High School administrators say they took action on the post as soon as they were made aware of it.

“This picture does not represent (Creston Community High School), our school system or our community,” Principal Bill Messerole said in a statement released by the district, “We are proud of how our students and staff conducted themselves today after the picture became public. It is of the utmost importance that our students feel safe and welcomed in our district.”

The names of the involved students have not been released as they are all minors.

I’ve been on the “Rock for President” train longer than most. Back in 2015, when the Republican and Democratic primaries were ramping up, I was kicking around the idea of The People’s Champ become The Nation’s Leader. And apparently, none other than Chris Jericho agrees.

During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday, Y2J said he thinks the Rock will eventually run for president of the United States, saying simply, “I honestly think The Rock will run for President’:

Jericho makes a good point, too, by saying that The Rock has similar skills as Donald Trump, except his actually kind, likeable, and a trustworthy man. As Jericho says, we’re in the age of “celebrity presidents” and I can’t think of the better one than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

And the Rock is embracing is, too. Last summer, in an interview with GQ, Johnson said he was seriously considering a run at the Presidency:

Last June, when The Washington Post published an op-ed suggesting he could be a viable candidate, Johnson posted a screen grab and gave the idea a boost. On Instagram, he called the Post piece “interesting” and “fun to read,” adding that “the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country.”

Since then, Johnson tells me, he’s given the question more thought. “A year ago,” he says, “it started coming up more and more. There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant—‘We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!’”

So, after all that consideration, Johnson doesn’t hesitate when I ask him whether he honestly might one day give up his life as the highest-paid movie star on earth—which is unquestionably easier, more fun, and more lucrative than being president of the United States—in order to run for office. “I think that it’s a real possibility,” he says solemnly.

Mark my words, it may not be 2020 (the dude has too much paper to stack), but by 2024, The Rock will be a legitimate Presidential candidate.

University of Rochester police is investigating a body found near a pedestrian footbridge.

According to Twitter user Zac Morlang, there appears to be a lifeless body in the water under the bridge.

The University of Rochester, across all of its schools and campuses, enrolls approximately 5,600 undergraduates and 4,600 graduate students. Its 158 buildings house over 200 academic majors.

No further information is available at this time.

If there is one thing fantasy owners utterly dread taking a chance on it’s the injury prone player. Even if said player has tremendous upside, it’s hard to acquiesce to the notion that a great player could become a liability with one brutal hit.

However, injuries are practically unavoidable in a physically grueling sport like football. Like it or not, all of our favorite players are physically fallible and fantasy owners always need to have a solid contingency plan in place in case the unfathomable occurs.

While his value has depreciated noticeably since he was drafted 7th overall in 2015, Kevin White could see a serious resurgence as a viable fantasy asset this year. Although his crippling injury history cannot be ignored, his path on the inside track to becoming the Chicago Bears’ number one receiver is worth acknowledgement.

With Cameron Meredith out for the season, White will be given a tremendous opportunity to flash his speedy skill set in the hopes of rising from the ashes. From his immense size (6’3″, 216 lbs) to his impressive speed and catching abilities (13.3 yards per reception in 2014 at West Virginia), White is an ideal deep threat that can make contested catches. Physically, it’s clear that White can compete and overcome most defensive backs in the league, an attribute that made him such a coveted prospect coming out of college.

Unfortunately, the potential of White has yet to be fully realized as he has only played in four NFL games in two years. The numbers he has managed to post in those four appearances (187 yards, 9.8 yards per receptions) pale in comparison to what he can actually do on the field when fully healthy. A classic boom or bust prospect, White could be pay dividends right away or succumb to another season-ending ailment, which would likely reduce his chances staying in the NFL to next to nothing.

With that caveat out of the way, White is most definitely worth taking a flier on, especially if he his sitting on the waiver wire. At 50% ownership, some owners are seeing the appeal of keeping White on the bench in case he blossoms into the star wideout everyone believed he would be two years ago. Still, I believe White’s value is better than a 50-50 coin flip. If he’s a bust, not much will be lost for current owners. However, if he pans out as a consistent starter, expect his boom to be deafening as the season progresses.

While fans and critics alike were more critical of this season of Game Of Thrones than past seasons, one of the loudest, and most peculiar criticisms was of Ed Sheeran’s cameo appearance in the season premiere.

In the season opener, Arya is traveling to King’s Landing, she comes across a group of Lannister soldiers gathered by a camp fire, singing a tune. And who was singing that tune? DING DING DING. Ed Sheeran, the Red Man (that’s a Red Woman pun, get it?). According to showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Sheeran’s cameo was intended to be a surprise to Maisie Williams, the actress who plays Arya, who apparently has a real life affinity for Sheeran.

Sure, Sheeran’s cameo was a little out of place and brought a little reality into a fantasy show, but the scene was about four minutes of an eight hour season. Who the hell cares? Does Ed Sheeran have a super punchable face? Yes. And do we hope Arya killed the shit out of his character? Of course! But did it really matter? Not at all.

Of course, Sheeran was eventually asked what he thought the fate of his character was, and like most of us, thinks he’s dead:

“We were all quite young, those soldiers. I doubt I’m going to survive for that long, to be honest, when there are dragons in the world.”

“No one wants to see me come back. I wanted to be a cameo in it, and I’ve done the cameo,” Sheeran told MTV.

Given that most of the Lannister soldiers were burnt to a crisp during the Loot Train MMassacre in “The Spoils of War”, we like to imagine that Sheeran’s character was barbequed, too.

With each passing season, the role of the tight end as a receiving security blanket becomes more prevalent. Household names just as Greg Olsen and Rob Gronkowski have quickly become clutch players both in reality and in fantasy football. Even the body types have changed for these once pseudo offensive lineman as they still promote the size of the position while shedding the sheer girth that they once had. While this is not to say that the bulky tight end is irrelevant, the emphasis on high-octane offenses in the NFL has resulted in once one-dimensional players to become more versatile.

For tight end David Njoku, his value on the field and in fantasy will be mainly predicated on if he can replicate his abilities as a reliable deep threat while he was in college. During his last season in Miami, Njoku was a favorite downfield target of quarterback Brad Kaaya as he averaged 16.2 yards per reception and scored eight times in 2016. His yards after the catch (11.2 yards) are more much more representative of a athletic receiver rather than a prototypical tight end, which is why the Browns saw it fit to select him at the end of the first round. While Njoku still struggles with drops, his big-play ability while certainly help the Browns throughout the season.

In terms of fantasy value, Njoku’s worth from week to week will be predicated on who is throwing him the ball. While quarterback DeShone Kizer is a fearless gunslinger (which caters perfectly to Njoku’s abilities), his recklessness and overall raw make up could hurt Njoku’s chances to initially shine in fantasy. As a result, Njoku’s ownership percentage is understandably low compared to Evan Engram (21%) and O.J. Howard (34%). Yet, if Njoku becomes the beneficiary of a consistent passer, he could easily surpass both Howard and Engram in terms of fantasy value.

Of course, a fantasy owners willingness to have faith in the Browns will determine how they view Njoku as a long-term asset. While it’s a big ask for anyone to give the Browns the benefit of the doubt, (whether in fantasy or reality) we would all be remiss if we failed to see what Njoku can do given the proper time to develop. As the role of the tight end continues to change, it’s reasonable to believe that Njoku could be ahead of the curve in becoming a nearly perfect hybrid as a receiving tight end.

Sonya Bailey, a 51-year-old Alabama high school teacher, has been arrested after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage student.

Bailey, 51, a teacher at West End High School, was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center on August 28 for allegedly engaging in sexual acts and sending the teenager explicit photos while working at West End.

Bailey is now being charged with one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student, one count of second-degree sodomy and one count of second-degree rape.

The age, sex, and identity of the victim have not been released at this time. A married mother-of-two, Bailey was released on $60,000 bond on August 29.

Bailey allegedly sent sexually-explicit photos and engaged in sexual acts with a student while employed with the Etowah County Board of Education as a teacher. Authorities did not say where she taught, but according to a school website, she was a commerce and information technology teacher at West End High School.

According to that website, she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business education from Alabama A & M. Her biography said she is married with two children and two grandchildren. ” I enjoy working with the students of WEHS and trust that they will leave my class having learned something beneficial toward their future,” she wrote.

Etowah County Superintendent Dr. Alan Cosby issued this statement: “Mrs. Bailey resignation was accepted by the Etowah County Board of Education on August 28th. Her resignation was accepted after these allegations came to light. We are fully cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office in this case.

As a condition of her bond, Bailey is to report to Community Corrections and have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family.
