At the 1:24 mark in the video, the sea lion reaches out of the water towards the little girl. The girl and her family laugh it off. They find this sea lion to be super cute and they’re ultra comfortable around this unpredictable critter.

The girl decides to sit down on the wooden railing of the dock. And then at the 1:39 mark the sea lion yanks that girl into the water by her backside. Adults yell in panic as the small child is pulled down into the deep.

This could be any parent’s worst nightmare in action. You think you’re having a fun day out with your daughter, and then a seemingly harmless sea lion tries to drown her. But oh, the animal was probably just playing. The incident occurred at Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada over the weekend.

But luckily for the girl and her family, an unsung hero jumped into the water to rescue the frightened child.

Did the man get a thank you? Nope. But he didn’t need anyone to thank him. Some heroes don’t wear capes and most don’t need to be thanked.

And by the way, I may have spoiled this thought in the title, but I think we may have just found the reincarnation of the beloved Harambe. That beautiful gorilla may have been reincarnated into an attractive, yet dangerous sea lion. Hearts out for Harambe. Forget my silliness, just watch the damn video!

The end score of Friday’s game was 130 to 86 in favor of the Cleveland Cavaliers. On Wednesday, the Cavs bested the Celtics once again, but not by such a wide margin. On that night, the Celtics fell by 13 points, a number often associated with bed luck. And then, two nights later, this most unlucky team from Boston became utterly decimated at the hands and squeaky feet of LeBron James and his team of Cavaliers. On Friday, James was able to score 30 points, seven assists, four rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.

The Cavs squashed the Celtics in their own backyard. Now, we’ll be in the Cavaliers’ home turf for the third game in the series. Do the Celtics have what it takes to turn around bad luck?

Tonight at 8:30 P.M., the Cavs and Celtics will battle again. Hopefully, the team from Boston won’t epically fail again. They can’t do any worse than Friday’s game, can they?

Leon Lawson Jr. is the uncle and assistant trainer of super middleweight Andre Dirrell, but he is also wanted by the Prince George’s County police for two counts of assault. Last night, Lawson sucker punched Dirrell’s opponent Jose Uzcategui twice in the face. The boxing match between Andre and Jose may have been finished, but a new brawl began at the MGM National Harbor.

Tonight’s fight between Andre Dirrell and Jose Uzcategui concluded with an obvious case of controversy.

Jose was originally disqualified for a late punch after the bell in the eighth round. Andre fell to the ground like a ton of bricks. The referee Bill Clancy decided that since the punch was landed after the bell, Jose should be disqualified. As a result, Andre captured the vacant interim super middleweight.

The beaten-up Uzcategui held back by his handlers, while Lawson was restrained and later left the building without further incident. Uzcategui is doing alright following the altercation. He was brought to the trauma center at MedSTAR Washington Hospital in Washington DC. He left the hospital a few hours later.

“I’m sorry for what my coach has done,” Dirrell said. “My coach is my family, my uncle, and he was worried. He cares for me. He loves me. Please forgive him.”

Police are currently on the lookout for Leon Lawson Jr. If found, he will immediately be subject to arrest.

In the main event of the evening, Gary Russell Jr. boxed Oscar Escandon. Russell managed to knock out Escandon in the seventh round to retain his fetherweight title. The vicious champion then spoke into the microphone and commented on the now-infamous brawl between Andre Dirrell’s uncle and Jose Uzcategui.

“We boys are gladiators, and sometimes emotions get the best of us,” Russell said. “Our families support us and we draw from each other’s energy, and I hope the fans can see that and understand that sometimes emotions run high.

Russell added that, “I want to apologize for the gladiators. The gladiators are warriors. The Dirrell camp, sometimes emotions build up and take the best of us. Please forgive them.”

University of Maryland Police Department

A University of Maryland student has been charged with first and second degree murder, along with first-degree assault. Police say that the attack was unprovoked and random. A student visiting from Bowie State University was fatally stabbed. The stabbing occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Sean Christopher Urbanski, 22, has been arrested and charged with murder. The Bowie State University student was walking with two friends near a bus stop at the College Park campus when he was fatally attacked. They were merely waiting for an Uber in front of Montgomery Hall on Regents Drive  when the fatal incident occurred. The victim was stabbed in the chest with a folding knife.

After witnesses positively identified Sean, he was arrested for Saturday morning’s murder on Regents Drive. When officers took Sean into custody, he wasn’t speaking rationally, according to the police. He has been charged with first and second degree murder, as well as first-degree assault.

The victim’s name has not been released to the public, at the request of the victim’s family. The deceased is black, but police don’t believe that race played a part in the stabbing.

The suspect is from Severna Park, Maryland. No lawyer has been listed for Mr. Urbanski’s case, according to his online records.

“I’m shocked,” Rosey Ugo Edeh, who was visiting town to see her daughter graduate, told The Baltimore Sun. “This is a weekend of pure bliss and celebration for seniors.”

An Ontario middle school teacher is accused of having sex with several boys, all between the ages of 13 and 18. She was sentenced earlier today to two years behind bars, as she admitted to sending nude photos as well as engaging in sexual acts with these students. She claims that the reason why she engaged in these illicit sexual acts was because these students blackmailed her.

Jaclyn McLaren use to teach grades 6 through 8, but now she’ll spend the next two years in prison. She told the court that everything took a turn for the worst once a male student discovered nude photos of her while using her phone during class. After he discovered these nude photos, McLaren claims that he began blackmailing and concocted a scheme, which resulted in the teacher sleeping with several more students.

In accordance with Canadian law, none of the underage boys’ names have been released to the public.

McLaren alleges that when she asked the student to return the phone back to her, the student told her to send him nude pictures and then he’ll won’t tell anyone what he saw.

She admitted to sending nude photos to the 13-year-old student in 2014.

Another boy also said he received nude photos of the teacher in 2014, off of Snapchat. At the time, the boy was 14 years old. The teacher claims that she sent those photos the following year instead.

The former middle school teacher admits to meeting both boys at a local trail, where she would drink beer with them. She would then take the boys to her car, where she would “fondled and kiss them.” She also admitted to performing oral sex on both boys.

The third boy says that McLaren started sending him nude photos when he was only 15-years-old. She then waited until he turned 18 for them to engage in sexual intercourse.

The fourth student showed police officers a screenshot of McLaren’s breasts. The teacher’s face is also visible in the photo.

The fifth boy was not a student of McLaren, unlike the other four boys previously mentioned. He recalls that McLaren sent him nude pictures when he was 16-years-old. He says that she didn’t know his age, but she didn’t seem to be too concerned.

The sixth boy received a video of the teacher fondling her breasts. He was a student of McLaren. He was 15-years-old when she sent him that video.

The seventh victim of McLaren is a 17-year-old boy. He also received nude photographs from the teacher, as well as video of her performing a sexual act. McLaren claims to not have known his age. However, she also says that she didn’t take “the necessary steps to find out.”

Jalyn McLaren originally faced 42 separate charges, but the court reduced those charges. In the end, she was convicted on two counts of sexual exploitation, two counts of luring, one of possession of child pornography, one of making explicit material available to people under 18 and one of making it available to people under 16.

Once McLaren is released from jail, she must register as a sex offender. She also been ordered to undergo “sexual treatment.”

“We are aware that sentencing took place today for Jaclyn McLaren,’ said Mandy Savery-Whiteway, director of education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.”We recognize that this has been a challenging and difficult situation for everyone involved. Erlich, realizing that the app will only work properly if thousands of pictures of food from the internet are checked manually, convinces Big Head to make his students do this instead of their regular assignment, which is watching movies at class. However, they meet with Coleman Blair Partners and create their own food based app, rendering Seefood useless. Predicting that the app will fail to be funded, Erlich trades his equity for a Corvette Jian-Yang bought with the rest of the initial funding money. However, Jian-Yang manages to pivot the project as a filter for ‘dick pics’ and Periscope acquires the app for $4 million. Dinesh, who thanks to Gilfoyle’s remarks is starting to get paranoid about his new girlfriend, is still the app’s main programmer, and ends scrubbing pictures of penises from the internet as his main duty.

On last’s night episode of Saturday Night Live, The Rock made an “earth-shattering” announcement, verbalizing his intention to run for president in 2020. This is all tongue-in-cheek, right? A joke, right? Who knows, these days. But we do know that Tom Hanks is ready and willing to act as his Vice President.

According to a new poll from Public Policy Polling, participants were asked who would they support in the 2020 elections: Donald Trump or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and guess who won? If you guessed The Rock then you’re right. He won the poll 42-37.

The Rock responded to this yuge news during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I’ve really been blown away, it’s so flattering,” Johnson admitted. “I think it’s because a lot of people want to see a different leadership today – not different, but a better leadership today. I think more poise, less noise.”

Dwayne says that the reason why the people in the poll chose him over Donald Trump comes down to relatability. “I also think over the years I’ve become a guy a lot of people relate to. I get up early in the morning at a ridiculous hour and go to work. I spend time with the troops, I take care of my family, I love taking care of people. I think that kind of thing really resonates with people, especially today.”

Johnson hasn’t exactly made up his mind yet, as said, “three and a half years is a long way away, so we’ll see.”

The People’s Champ appeared on Saturday Night Live last night and poked fun at this recent presidential-level attention that he’s been receiving. Tom Hanks will be his running partner obviously.

Veep started to show the cards up its sleeve as the Selina and Jonah storylines let us see what was in store for these two characters. After Selina found out the truth of her father’s past, she started to reevaluate her life. She has always believed that she did not deserve the shit-storm that came to her, but episode five showed her life has always been a shit-show. The episode ends with Selina regaining her vision of what she needs to do with her life, and her library is at the top of her list.

Jonah, on the other hand, is starting to fill the U.S representative mold that he is being thrust into. In the past, Jonah seemed to only spiral downward from his incompetence, but this season has him being thrust higher and higher even with every mistake he makes. This week’s episode gave Jonah a potential mate, who is changing his life, forcibly, for the better. Jonah’s new love interest will come into play more with the coming episodes, but it has been funny so far to see him get bossed around by a woman he “loves.”

This week’s episode is taking the gang to Quater as Selina is helping the U.S government once again in her post-presidency. Selina is determined to keep her reputation in the global spotlight, so I’m sure this is more a selfish mission than a selfless one. Veep Season 6, Episode 6 Preview

Where in the hell is Kevin Garvey? Last week’s episode of The Leftovers had Matt, Laurie, John, and Michael join aboard a ferry boat filled with the sex-crazed cult followers of “Frasier, the Sensuous Lion.” While the gang did not take part in the festivities, it was a journey and revelation for Matt, who is still trying to find answers. Once on board, Matt comes across a man who proclaims that he is God, which angers Matt and compels him to reveal who this man truly is. Matt is able to knock the man out and questions him, only to come face to face with a “snake” rather than God.

While the man turned out to not be God due to his mauling at the end of the episode, it did help Matt find some closure. Matt’s secret illness finally comes to light, as he states that his childhood leukemia is back, which does not deter or affect him in his mission to find Kevin. Matt seems to finally have let go to the lingering question he had, which was why he was no taken in the great departure. Instead, Matt has found some form of peace in the acceptance of his inevitable death and that he needs to carry on with his quest to retrieve Kevin.

This week’s episode has the two storylines come together, as Matt, Laurie, John, and Michael are reunited with Nora and Kevin’s father. Kevin’s “death” in episode four has Kevin absent in this episode and leaving some fans wondering if and when he will come back. Besides the absence of Kevin, Kevin’s father may get some help in building the ark in preparation for the “great flood” that will cleanse the Earth. This episode seems to be shining a spotlight on Kevin’s ex-wife Laurie, who has had a turbulent life since the great departure.

Kickoff match: Tye Dillinger vs. Aiden English

Aiden English sings on his way to the ring. He’s really showing off those pipes. Tye Dillinger comes out to a yuge pop. They tangle up to kickoff Backlash, and Aiden takes down Tye. Aiden hits Tye with an uppercut and taunts his opponent as the crowd chants for “10.” English is in complete control. He throws Tye down to the mat with a neckbreaker.

Back from the break, and English is still dominating Dillinger. Fans help Tye rally back, as “The Perfect 10” hits Aiden with kicks, chops, a hard forearm and an atomic drop (not necessarily in that order). Now, Dillinger is in control, unloading on English in the corner as the crowd chants along until the 10 count.

Tye tries to drop the knee on English, but the Artist moves out of the way and dumps his opponent from the top rope. English goes to the top rope, but his plans are foiled by Tye. Aiden gains some retribution, as he avoids a big splash and drops Tye on his face. English goes for the cover. 1..2…kick out!

English starts crying because he’s unable to put away Dillinger. Tye capitalizes. As Aiden charges, he runs right into Dillinger’s Tye Breaker.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Ziggler used his amateur-wrestling background to dominate and keep Nakamura grounded for most of the match. Shinsuke was just trying to survive in the ring against Dolph who was simply relentless.

But Dolph gets too cocky and disrespectful and spits right in Shinsuke’s face. Nakamura snaps and mops the floor with Ziggler. This is one of the biggest comebacks I’ve seen, and I partially grew up in the John Cena-era.

WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos (c) vs. Breezango

This match was both hilarious and action-packed. The match starts off with Jimmy Usos and Fandango. ‘Dango blocks a clothesline and throws Jimmy to the mat with a headscissors. Tyler Breeze gets the tag and he literally uses a  mop to mess with The Usos.

At another point in the match, Breeze is dressed up as an old lady…who can drop kick! The Usos are dominant, but Breezango seems to have the edge tonight. Until The Usos dump Breeze over the barricade. The brothers double-team Fandango on the top rope.

Fandango eats a superkick and crumbles to the ring.

Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin

Corbin beat the hell out of Sami for most of the match. Baron mopped the floor with Zayn, but “The Underdog of the Underground” made a yuge comeback. Somehow, Sami is able to execute a helluva kick on the much larger opponent for the victory.

Naomi, Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch (Team Lynch) vs. Carmella, Natalya & Tamina Snuka (The Welcoming Comittee)

The Welcoming Committee dominated this match. Team Lynch had bursts of straight fire, but not enough to burn their opponents. In the end, Natalya trapped Becky Lynch in the center of the ring with a modified Sharpshooter.

WWE United States Championship match: Kevin Owens (c) vs. AJ Styles

This is just the classic match I’d expect out of both men. A lot of back-and-forth action throughout the match. The WWE has really upped its game in regards to the mid-card division. This is this most focus I’ve seen WWE put on mid-card titles since I watched old wrestling tapes from the 1980s.

We see AJ execute a sick suplex onto Owens. But Styles gets his leg caught up on the announcer’s table and the referee counts to 10.

Erick Rowan vs. Luke Harper

Rowan dominated for most of this match. He beat down Harper inside and outside the ring. But Luke came back with a flurry of offense, hitting a big boot and a tilt-a-whirl sideslam.

Rowan fights back with a spinning kick and a powerbomb, but Haper keeps kicking out. Rowan is visibly frustrated. Both men trade shots.

Rowan tries to reach for his sheep mask to gain some type of supernatural strength. But Harper takes him out with a discus clothesline.

Sean Christopher Urbanski, a 22-year-old University of Maryland student, was charged with fatally stabbing a visiting student in an unprovoked attack during graduation weekend.

Urbanski, of Severna Park, faces charges of first and second-degree murder as well as first-degree assault for the alleged attack early Saturday, May 20.

A student from the neighboring Bowie State University was waiting for an Uber with two friends on the College Park campus around 3:00 A.M. The group was standing near a bus stop on Regents Drive near Montgomery Hall when the victim was stabbed in the chest with a folding knife, police said. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Urbanksi fled the scene, but police stopped him shortly after the stabbing and the victims’ friends identified him as the attacker.

Via WJLA:

The victim has been identified as Richard Collins III, an ROTC student who was commissioned into the U.S. ARMY as a 2nd Lieutenant on Thursday. Collins was set to graduate on May 23rd, according to a family spokesperson.

Police said the entire incident was captured by surveillance cameras in the area. Several cameras are mounted on a nearby guard house and on Montgomery Hall.

Responding officers performed first aid and CPR until paramedics arrived, but Collins was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Urbanski, who was not scheduled to graduate this week, is being held without bail, with his first hearing scheduled for June 15. He was described as intoxicated and incoherent by Sgt Rosanne Hoass of the university police. Police also found the folding knife at the scene.

The victim and suspect did not know each other. Furthermore, the police said the attack was random and unprovoked.

Normally, I enjoy that Last Week Tonight focuses in on an otherwise unheard of subject, but after the week that our President just had, a recap of sorts was necessary for us common folk. For example, Oliver tackled some seriously pressing questions, such as ‘What the f*ck is going on?’ and ‘How big of a deal is this’ and ‘Where do we go from here?’, but most importantly, ‘Is this real life?’

It really has astounding how Trump’s actions can alter our perception of time. The Russian Ambassador story feels like it was WEEKS ago, and yet, it happened exactly seven days ago. The dude has been President for less than half of a year and it feels like he’s been Commander and Chief for the last decade.

Viviana Ross, a 21-year-old waitress at Chiltern Firehouse, was reportedly fired after a manager found her naked in Orlando Bloom’s room. According to The Sun, Ross joined the 40-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star in his five-star suite after the end of shift at the popular celebrity spot in London’s Marylebone.

What Happened?

According to a close friend, Ross was found by her manage after Bloom had left the day after. She was reportedly fired for “fraternizing with clients.”

The source relayed to The Sun that Ross was “hurt” by the firing but did not regret the “night of incredible sex.”

“She said she had an amazing time and his body was very good. He was an exceptionally good lover.”

Ross came to the UK from Romania two months ago to try and break into the film world. She is said to have met Bloom while serving him drinks during her Friday night shift. She then ran into him when she was off work and the two spoke for a bit.

Bloom reportedly asked Ross back to his room where they began kissing and he “made the first move.” The source claimed the two had a lot of “sexual tension” during Bloom’s five-day stay.

The Chiltern Firehouse let Ross know she was fired via text an hour after a manager found her in Bloom’s room.

Since rising to fame in the early 2000s, Bloom has been linked to many beautiful ladies. He dated actress Kate Bosworth on and off between 2002 and 2006. Following that, he was linked to Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz before getting involved with Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr in 2007. The two wed in 2010 before divorcing in 2013. Since then, Bloom has also been rumored to be involved with Katy Perry.

The actor can next be seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, his first appearance in the franchise since 2007’s At World’s End.

None of that really matters to them — they only show up to these things so they can dress to the nines, get wasted, and then all sleep with each other. Just a bunch of rich and beautiful people being beautiful and rich. Picture Eyes Wide Shut, only dope.

Old Woman from Florida finds an iguana in the toilet, so naturally, she dials 911

Imagine: you pick up the toilet seat and find an iguana sitting in the semi-shallow water. What would you do? Hopefully, you don’t like taking sh*ts on lizards. Well, I imagine you probably won’t call the police either.

One woman from South Florida decided to dial 911 when she found an iguana sitting in her toilet. She closed that toilet lid and went right on the phone to speak with the police. Geez.

Lt. Scott Mullin of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Venom One unit arrived on the scene to apprehend the reptilian menace plaguing one South Floridan bathroom toilet. It was the first time in his career that anyone called about an iguana in a toilet.

Mulin says that when the woman called on Tuesday night, he asked to make sure that the creature was an iguana and not a serpentine predator (snake).

The woman, her daughter and grandchildren waited for Mulin to arrive. He believes that the iguana probably traveled through the sewage pipes , which he suggest is the reason how the critter wound up in the toilet.

Mulin put on gloves and picked up the gentle lizard. He then placed the little guy in a box.

Lt. Mulan drove off to a wildlife rescue center, with the star of the story safety tucked away in a safe box.

Guy drives drunk in the parking lot of the New York State Police Academy

They can’t give out enough “genius of the year” awards. This NY guy takes the cake as ultimate smarty pants of the northeast. He was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated in the parking lot of a f**king police academy of all places.

I’m sure if we were watching one of the Police Academy movies, this type of behavior might be tolerated. But in the state of New York, the law tends to not f**k around when it comes to drunk driving (and for good reason too).

According to the police, an off-duty cop observed a man acting unusual in the parking lot of the academy. The officer reports that the man exited his vehicle and then proceeded to lie down in the grass. The man was approached by state troopers, who gave him a field sobriety test. The officers decided to take this man to the trooper station at the Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany. He received a breath test, which resulted in a blood-alcohol content of 0.28 percent. His blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit for driving in New York (0.28 percent).

The guy is 49-years-old and probably is looking to stay away from police parking lot for the foreseeable future. He received a ticket for aggravated driving while intoxicated. Tough break, old chap!

Car vs. Alligator: SUV flips over multiple times after hitting 9-foot-long beast

Never underestimate the power of a 9-foot-long alligator. They do have a killer bite. But if you happen to run over one on I-75 in Sarasota, Florida, you car just may flip over more times than a seasoned politician on any given Tuesday.

According to The Florida Highway Patrol: 34-year-old lawyer Jennifer Rosinski of Cooper City lost control of her SUV after hitting an alligator, which resulted in her vehicle flipping over numerous times. Miraculously, Rosinski emerged from the wreck not seriously injuried. However, she did have bruises as well as a cut under her right eye.

But how is that alligator doing? The scaly creature didn’t make it. Hearts our to our reptile friend.

Rosinski was in disbelief. “Are you kidding me?” she asks.

This 34-year-old lawyer originally thought a fox ran out in front of her car. “I’ve never been in a significant accident before, and the first one I’m in is car vs. alligator!”

Cool Old Dude: WWII Veteran breaks world skydiving record at 101-years-old

Bryson William Verdun Hayes is the oldest person in the world to skydive. That’s pretty bad-ass. Imagine what you’d be doing if you’re ever lucky enough to make it to 101-years-old. I’m guessing not jumping out of airplanes.

On Sunday, May 14th, 2017, Byrson joined his extended family in a tandem sky-diving venture. At an airfield in Honiton, southwest England, Mr. Hayes made history. At the age of 101 years, 38 days, this old chap has written his name into the Guinness Book of World Records for oldest person in the world to skydive. Smashing!

Back when Hayes was 90-years-old, he developed an itch to sky dive. His late-wife wouldn’t let him. Ten years later, Bryson finally made that jump. He was 100-years-old. A year later, he decided to make that leap again!

During World War 2, Hayes served in the British army. He received a France’s Legion of Honor for his accomplishments in combat.

“Uncle Fat” Chunky Monkey is put on diet after eating way too much junk food

In Thailand, there is an extremely chubby macaque by the name of Uncle Fat. He became morbidly obese after consuming copious amounts of soda and junk food left over by tourists. Recently, this overweight monkey has been rescued from a life of eating tourist scraps.

Uncle Fat has been placed on a strict diet, consisting of lean protein, fruits and vegetables. He currently weighs three times the average weight of a macaque. The average macaque weighs 9 kilograms (20 pounds), while Uncle Fat tips the scales at about 26 kilograms (60 pounds).

“It was not easy to catch him,” said Kacha Phukem, the wildlife official who coordinated the capture and rescue mission on Thursday, April 27, 2017. “He was the leader of his pack, and when I tried to go in, I had to fight off a flock of them with sticks.”

Uncle Fat “was the leader of the pack.” He had a whole group of subordinate monkeys doing his bidding. Uncle Fat was and still is a total boss.

“He had minions and other monkeys bringing food for him but he would also re-distribute it to younger monkeys,” said Supakarn Kaewchot, a veterinarian who supervises Uncle Fat’s food-intake. “He is now in a critical condition where there is a high-risk of heart disease and diabetes.”

I’m starting to really dig this monkey. I wish I could scoop this creature up and hang out with him for a couple days (Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back style). I promise I won’t give him any of the munchies, unless their organic and healthy like fruits and vegetables.

“I understand that people feel sorry for the monkeys and want to feed them when they see them,” Supakarn said. “But please don’t feed them food that people like to eat like snacks and soda. It is very bad for their health and the problem is entirely man-made.”

Even though I assume many of us have grown to love this monkey, we can’t encourage his past ripe with destructive eating habits. People have their vices and so do monkeys.

Uncle Fat is getting up their in age. He’s estimated to have been born between 10 and 15 years ago. Uncle’s diet consists of 400 grams worth of lean protein, fruits and vegetables twice a day. Within a few months, he may be released into the world if his condition improves.

Native American activist Richard Oakes is the inspiration for today’s Google Doodle. May 22, 2017, would have been his 75th birthday.

Oakes is best known for creating one of the country’s first Native American studies departments and leading an occupation of Alcatraz Island in the late 1960s.

Oakes was known as “Chief” by his fellow Native Americans. He was born in New York on May 22, 1942 and died on September 20, 1972 at 30.

“Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Richard Oakes made a stand for the rights of American Indians. Over his time as an activist, he fought peacefully for freedom, justice, and the right of American Indians to have control over their lands,” Google says. “Today’s Doodle recognizes places that were important in his life’s story and mission, depicting the Akwesasne reservation, Alcatraz Island, and Pit River. Here’s to Richard Oakes, for his unwavering dedication to his community and social justice.”

Here’s everything you need to know about Oakes.

Mohawk Tribe

Oakes was born near the Candian border on the Mohawk Indian Reservation in Akwesasne, New York. As a member of the Mohawk tribe, Oakes fished and planted an assortment of crops. However, the tribe was unable to continue these practices after the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, which industrialized the area.

Forced to find a new profession, Oakes became a steel worker which required a significant amount of travel. During one of these trips, Oakes wed an Italian woman in Rhode Island and had a son, Bryan, in 1968.

San Francisco State University

Soon after the birth of his son, Oakes divorced his wife and moved out West to pursue new interests. He enrolled in San Francisco State University where he attended class during the day and worked as a bartender at night. During his time at SFSU, however, Oakes grew frustrated with the curriculum and teamed with an Anthropology professor to include more Native American studies.

This would eventually become the outline for what would be the nation’s first Native American studies program.

Occupation of Alcatraz

Oakes and more than 80 Native Americans led the occupation of Alcatraz in 1969, which is the longest occupation of a federal land in U.S. history. Their goal was to promote awareness for issues affecting Native Americans.

The Richard Oakes Multicultural Center explains, “The goals of the Native inhabitants of Alcatraz Island were to gain a deed to the island, establish an American Indian university, cultural center, and museum. While Oakes and his followers did not succeed in obtaining the island, as a result of their occupation, the U.S. government policy of terminating American Indian tribes ended and was replaced by a policy of Native self-determination.”

The group would occupy the island until 1971. Unfortunately, the death of Oakes’ teenage-step-daughter in 1970 pushed him to voluntarily depart the island soon after. The remaining protestors were removed by the government shortly after. Though they failed in their goal to obtain ownership of the island and establish an independent community, they did succeed in affecting U.S. policy.

The Termination of Indian Tribes policy that was established in the 1940s was terminated in favor of the Indian Self-Determination policy, which allowed the government to provide grants to Native tribes.

Second Marriage

Oakes was married a second time, in 1969, to Anna Marufo, a member of the Kashia Pomo nation, according to a Historical Dictionary of Native American Movements. He adopted her five children. Anna Oakes died in August 2010, according to The Press Democrat. Anna Oakes was with her husband at Alcatraz, and it was there where her daughter died, falling three stories from a prison structure, according to her obituary.

Death

Oakes was shot and killed by Michael Morgan, a camp manager at YMCA. Morgan had a poor reputation in regards to his treatment of Native American children. Oakes reportedly confronted him over this, which prompted Morgan to draw a handgun and shoot Oakes point blank.

Morgan was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but he was found not guilty by an all-white jury six months because Oakes was deemed to have been acting aggressive, allowing Morgan to use a self-defense legal response.

And while those two fights took place on Saturday, super middleweight David Benavidez made sure the weekend went out with a literal bang. On Sunday night, Benavidez took on Rogelio Medina in Laredo, Texas in the main event of a PBC on FS1 card.

In the eighth round, Benavidez scored a massive knockout victory, sending Medina under the ropes with a relentless flurry of punches. Watch Benavidez hit Medina with a devastating combination in the video below.

My eyes weren’t fast enough to even count how many punches were landed in that combination, as those blows were coming at a rapid pace. It looked like somebody was playing Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots by themselves with the way Benavidez was pummeling Medina.

Benavidez is now 18-0 with 17 KOs in his young career, and the 20-year-old looks like he will be a force to be reckoned with in the super middleweight division. With this victory, Benavidez is the mandatory challenger to face the winner of the September 9 bout between Callum Smith and Anthony Dirrell.
