The doctor for a certain Brazilian soccer team in the regional league from Goiás, Brazil, is really dedicated–to the point that he jumped in and blocked two goals during a match. That’s not really allowed, though. In fact, the video here shows the goalie leaving the net clear before the team doc (marked by his white vest) jumps in from behind to block two goals.
Then he remembers that he’s in freakin’ Brazil and runs for his life because half a futbol stadium and the guys on the field just decided that they wanted him dead.
A few thoughts here: It’s admirable that the guy doesn’t use his hands. At least he’s showing that much respect for not being, you know, a goalie. Also, all of the gutsy real-life sports books that we’ve ever read says that team doctors are usually just glorified groupies who pump up players on drugs while trying to nail cheerleaders. This doc is showing some real dedication.
Also, it turns out that the refs decided that the blocked goals still didn’t count, and the doctor’s team won the match. That’s some crazy rules there in Brazilian soccer. We’d congratulate the doctor, but we doubt that we’d be able to find him…
