Social media is whispering of sad rumors about an 18-year old University of South Carolina student and PIKE fraternity pledge who died last night.
Update: The Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Coroner’s Office have confirmed this story is real. A spokesman for Charlie Terreni’s family has confirmed the student’s name.
From what we’ve read, the situation is eerily similar as to what happened to West Virginia University’s Nolan Burch. Apparently Charlie and the rest of his brothers were celebrating big brother/little brother night.
Charlie was celebrating big brother/little brother with the rest of his fraternity and pledge class but after some time, the big brother left the house. When he came back, Charlie was unresponsive. Around 12:30 cameras, an ambulance and police cars were spotted outside the house.
Update: It’s now being reported by news sites that Charlie’s body wasn’t found until 10:30 AM in his house on Lee Street. The fraternity has been placed on “administrative suspension” from the PIKE National Chapter. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
That’s all the information that’s available right now, but the news is tragic. What a tough year for USC. First the school shooting and now this.
For the most part, USC students are being incredibly supportive on the social media site Yik Yak. Some are using his death as an excuse to rant against fraternities in general.
