There are treasures everywhere around pawn shops and second-hand stores. One lucky person came across a sweater owned by legendary coach Vince Lombardi last year in North Carolina and bought it for 58 cents. That same sweater was auctioned off Saturday night in New York City with the winning bid being $43,020. Quite the profit for the 58 cents.
It is shocking that something like that would end up at a Goodwill store however. It is a piece of football history that Lombardi wore while coaching at West Point and even had Lombardi written in black ink on it. Obviously, many people could try to put off something like this but the new owners took the sweater to get authentication on it and found it that it was truly real.
There is going to be a rush now to the Goodwill store with people trying to find the next big treasure that could score them tens of thousands of dollars. There probably aren’t any Lombardi sweaters just floating around though. It just proves however that antiques are thrown out all the time without the original owner realizing how much it is truly worth.
