Hannah Lowe, a 29-year-old hiker and climber, fell to her death in the United Kingdom, according to Metro UK. The tragic story takes an even more heartbreaking turn when you learn that Lowe’s boyfriend, Adam Stanaway, had just finished talking to her atop a waterfall when the tragedy struck.
Lowe lost her footing and Stanaway attempted to save her, but he was unable to grab ahold of her in time as she plunged to the bottom.
“Hannah turned around and lost her footing on the rocks,” Stanaway said in a statement, according to the reports. “I reached around to grab her bag but I couldn’t grab it in time and she fell. I looked, but I could not see her because my eyes are not that good. I shouted for Hannah’s mother and she came over. We tried to get down but had to go back up.”
Lowe’s death came just one day before Stanaway’s 30th birthday and hours after the couple had a picnic with her mother and sister.
“Today I lost my soul mate, my partner in crime, my absolute rock,” Stanaway wrote on Instagram after Lowe’s death. “Words can’t begin to explain the pain I’m feeling right now but I’m honored to have shared what time we had. I will spend the rest of my life making you proud and making myself a better person. You lifted me up and made me what I am in dark times and in happy times. I will love you forever. Sleep tight my darling until I see you again.”
At the time of her death, Lowe was studying for exams to become an assistant accountant.
Our deepest condolences go out to Lowe’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult and tragic time.
