Former world champion Erislandy Lara is back in action on Saturday, August 31 at the Minneapolis Armory as the Cuban fighter takes on Ramon Alvarez of Mexico for the vacant IBF super middleweight world championship. Alvarez is the brother of Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.
Lara (25-3-3), who suffered a past loss to Canelo Alvarez, is the former WBA super and IBO light middleweight champion. He suffered a split-decision loss to Jarrett Hurd in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 2018 to lose the belts. Lara has not won since October 2017 when he scored a unanimous decision victory over Terrell Gausha.
Alvarez (28-7-3), meanwhile, is coming off of a TKO loss to Brandon Rios in Atlantic City, New Jersey back in November 2018.
