Tevin Biles-Thomas, the 24-year-old brother of Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, has been arrested and charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and perjury, according to a report from Cleveland.com.
Biles-Thomas was allegedly involved in a triple homicide in Cleveland, Ohio on New Year’s Eve.
Three men — Devaughn Gibson, 23, DelVaunte Johnson, 19, and Toshon Banks, 21 — were shot and killed after “a fight broke out after a group of men showed up to the party uninvited and were asked to leave.” Two others were injured in the gunfire.
The shooting happened at an Airbnb rental located above a pizzeria, according to authorities.
“The investigators within the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit remained committed to securing an arrest in this tragic case,” Cleveland Division of Police Chief Calvin Williams said in a statement. “We appreciate our partnership with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office and are confident that their efforts will bring justice for the families affected by this terrible incident.”
Biles-Thomas, who is in the United States Army, is the only man to be charged in connection to the shooting at this time.
Representatives for Biles have yet to comment, and the Olympic and U.S. champion has remained silent since the news of her brother’s arrest broke on Thursday. She did, however, take to Twitter with a brief message that seems to explain her state of mind.
“Eating my feelings don’t talk to me,” she wrote on Twitter.
Biles-Thomas is currently in custody at the Liberty County, Georgia Jail and is awaiting arraignment on Friday, September 13 in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
