We’ve known about Disney’s upcoming streaming app Disney+ for months now, but other than that badass-looking Star Wars series “The Mandalorian,” there had been precious few reasons to be excited about coughing up $7 a month for the pretender to Netflix’s throne.
Things changed in a big way Friday, though, because Disney unleashed a barrage of new series and movies at the D23 Expo in Anaheim. With loads of Star Wars and Marvel content on the way over the next several years, we’re begging Mickey to take our cash. Here’s a look at 10 new Disney+ exclusives we can’t wait to check out when the service starts in November.
“The Clone Wars” continues. If you grew up watching the animated series, you’ve no doubt missed it since it stopped airing in 2014. The adventures of Ob-Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka will start up again in February.
Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Ewan McGregor’s performances as the Jedi master were the undisputed highlights of the prequel trilogy. He’ll reprise the role in an upcoming series, which won’t start filming until next year.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan play two of Captain America’s old pals who will try to pick up the slack now that Cap has given up the shield. The alluring Emily VanCamp and menacing Daniel Bruhl will be in on the action as well when the series kicks off in Fall 2020.
Untitled Rogue One prequel series. Diego Luna and Alan Tyduk reprise their roles as Cassian Andor and K-2SO in the lauded “Star Wars” spinoff film, which will shoot in London next year.
Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. Adapted from the Stephen Pastis book series, the offbeat middle school-set sitcom follows the misadventures of an overly serious sixth-grader (Winslow Fegley) who hangs out with a polar bear and moonlights as a detective. Craig Robinson and Wallace Shawn are also onboard.
WandaVision. Yet another “Avengers” spinoff, this one rounds up Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Scarlett Witch and Vision, as well as Kathryn Hahn and Kat Dennings, for a hybrid that blends corny 1950s sitcom sensibilities with nonlinear storytelling. Sounds weird and awesome.
What If? This animated Marvel take on the alternate universe comic book series places the heroes and villains in wacky scenarios, freed from the burdens of canonical repercussions. Just about the entire roster of live-action Marven Cinematic Universe actors has signed on to voice their characters in the 2021 series.
Loki. Tom Hiddleston will continue his role as Asgard’s chief mischief maker in Spring 2021. The series promises to explore uncharted realms of the Marvel universe, with the antihero’s grasp of might and magic on full display.
She-Hulk. MCU bigwig Kevin Feige is producing this show, based on Bruce Banner’s gamma ray-mutated cousin, Jennifer Walters. No casting info or release date was given, but the character is one of the more dynamic heroes in the comic books and promises to make for a thrilling series.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum. Striking an “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” vibe, the iconic actor indulges his whims in a National Geographic (yep, Disney owns that now, too) docuseries, which launches Nov. 12, along with Disney+.
