Late-rapper Nipsey Hussle will be honored with a tower tribute outside of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles, California. According to Nipsey’s longtime girlfriend Lauren London, the area surrounding the store will be shut down for the foreseeable future while they build the tribute to the rapper who was fatally gunned down outside of the store.
London announced the news on social media.
“As a notice to the public, we’re putting up a gate on Thursday, August 1st, 2019 to enclose the plaza at 3420 W. Slauson Ave to start the early development stages of the forthcoming Nipsey Hussle Tower to commemorate [sic] and honor the life and legacy of Nipsey,” London wrote.
“The Marathon Store will remain closed, but you can shop online at TheMarathonClothing.com. Thank you.”
There is no word on when construction is scheduled to be finished. However, a previously scheduled celebration of Nipsey’s life has been canceled. The celebration was initially scheduled for August 15, which would have been the rapper’s 34th birthday.
Nipsey’s sister recently celebrated her birthday which London also paid tribute to on social media.
“The English language is too premature to articulate and illustrate my Love for you,” she wrote. “My dear baby sister, we are walking the darkest of tunnels together. I have your back , front, and both sides. We are bonded through love and blood for Life and even after our physical forms transcend. Happy Birthday to my magical baby sister Sammy @babyyhairz I Got U and God Got Us.”
Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed on Sunday, March 31 outside of his clothing store — Marathon Clothing — in Los Angeles, California. The rapper was 33 years old. Hussle was recently nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards for his debut studio album “Victory Lap.” Initially, reports claimed that the murder in broad daylight was a result of gang violence, but it was later revealed that it stemmed from a personal issue between Nipsey and the shooter, Eric Holder, who is now in police custody and charged with murder.
