Jared Lorenzen, the beloved former Kentucky Wildcats and NFL quarterback who is known as “The Hefty Lefty,” has been admitted to the hospital due to an infection and undisclosed medical issues. According to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, Lorenzen is in the Intensive Care Unit and fighting for his life.

Lorenzen’s family is reportedly surrounding him at the hospital.

Since news of Lorenzen’s hospitalization surfaced, Jones took to social media to release an update from Lorenzen’s family that sheds light on the severity of Lorenzen’s condition.

“On Friday, June 28, Jared began playing a bigger, more important game than he’s ever played before,” the statement said. “Jared had not been feeling well for a few weeks and that finally caught up with him. He was brought to the hospital and fairly quickly was admitted to the ICU.

“Jared is battling an infection, kidney and heart issues. He is fighting with everything he has and his immediate family is by his side. We will attempt to update as often as possible, but please respect that some aspects of this journey are private matters.”

Lorenzen has been on a weight loss journey after his weight got to over 500 pounds following his playing career. Lorenzen documented his journey on a YouTube series titled “The Jared Lorenzen Project” and was the subject of an ESPN E:60 documentary, “The Hefty Lefty.”

Our thoughts are with Lorenzen as he battles the illness and attempts to make a full recovery. We will continue to update his condition as more information becomes available.

That is all the information that is available at this time. This article will be updated with new and relevant information should it become available at any time. If there is anything that we missed, please feel free to send an email to editor@teamcoed.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
