YouTube star Etika, whose real name is Desmond Amofah, has gone missing. According to the New York Police Department, Etika, who is from Brooklyn, was last heard of around 8:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 19.
Etika’s disappearance comes following a troubling, eight-minute video was posted where the YouTube star appears to be suicidal and repeatedly apologizes to his viewers.
“I’m sorry for leaving such a stained legacy,” he said, as transcribed by the New York Post. “I hope that my story maybe helps to make YouTube a better place in the future where people know boundaries and limits and how far things should go.
“You know I wasn’t suicidal before — I really wasn’t. But one thing I didn’t realize was that the walls were closing around me so fast. I really had no intention of killing myself but I’d always push it too far. I guess I am mentally ill.”
He later added: “You can’t help somebody who doesn’t want to help themselves. It’s not y’all’s fault, I don’t want you to blame yourselves. It’s all my fault.”
The video has been seen more than 200,000 times.
This is not the first time that Etika has worried fans with suicidal messages online.
The description of his latest video, meanwhile, is extremely worrisome and reads as a suicide note.
Etika was last seen wearing a white T-shirt. He is described as 6-feet tall and approximately 160-pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
Anyone with information about Etika’s potential whereabouts is urged by the New York Police Department to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish.
