Emma Watson, born Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson in Paris, France, on April 15, 1990, is an English actress and model who is best known for playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise.
Born and raised in Paris, France, in her early years, Watson eventually moved to Oxford, England, where she attended the Dragon School until the year 2003.
In the year 1999, when she was just nine-years-old, Watson was cast as Hermione Granger, the female lead in the Harry Potter franchise. Watson would go on to portray Hermione Granger in eight Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
Following her Harry Potter fame, Watson has gone on to star in various independent films and major motion pictures such as My Week with Marilyn, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, This Is The End, Noah, Colonia, Regression, Beauty and the Beast, and The Circle.
In addition to being a successful actress, Watson is also a prominent women’s rights activist, as she was appointed as United Nations Women Goodwill ambassador in June 2014.
