Nicki Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, on December 8, 1982, is a Trinidadian-American Grammy-nominated rapper who is best known for being one of the most successful female rappers in the history of the industry.
After being born in Trinidad and Tobago, moved to New York City when she was five-years-old. While living in Queens with her mother, Minaj was admitted to the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Art.
Minaj began rapping professionally in the year 2004 when she signed with the Brooklyn rap group Full Force. Three years later, on July 5, 2007, Minaj released her debut mixtape, тАЬPlaytime Is OverтАЭ. She released her second mixtape, тАЬSucka FreeтАЭ, in April 2008.
In the year 2009, MinajтАЩs career had a major breakthrough when she was discovered by New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne. In August 2009, Minaj signed a record deal with Lil WayneтАЩs label Young Money Entertainment.
Since signing with Young Money Entertainment, not only has Minaj become one of the most successful rappers of the past decade, but also one of the most influential. Over the course of the last 10 years, Minaj has released four solo studio albums: Pink Friday, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, The Pinkprint, and Queen.
