It appears that fans of Game of Thrones weren’t the only ones to take the ending of the series to heart, as the Kit Harington — the male lead of the show — reportedly checked into a Connecticut rehab center just weeks before the series finale aired.

According to the New York Post, Harington has been attending the Privé-Swiss rehab center in Connecticut for about a month after the end of Game of Thrones “really hit him hard”, sources say.

The report states that Harington has been “undergoing psychological coaching, practicing mindful meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy to combat stress and deal with negative emotions” at the luxury rehab center, which reportedly costs over $120,000 per month.

Speaking anonymously, a “source” told the New York Post’s Page Six that the ending of the series, which has been on the air since April 2011, “really hit Kit hard”.

“He realized ‘this is it — this is the end’, it was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, what next? He’s in the clinic predominantly for stress and exhaustion and also alcohol,” the source said.

Additionally, the unnamed source says that Harington’s wife Rose Leslie — who he met while filming Game of Thrones — is being “extremely supportive” of the beloved Jon Snow actor.

“His wife Rose is being extremely supportive. Everyone close to him really wanted him to get some rest. Right now, he just needs peace and quiet,” the Page Six source added.

Harington has not been shy about his difficulty coping with the end of Game of Thrones, as he told Esquire back in April that he had a “full-on breakdown” following the show’s production wrap.

“My final day of shooting, I felt fine … I felt fine … I felt fine … then I went to do my last shots and started hyperventilating a bit …Then they called ‘wrap’ and I just f—-g broke down. It was this onslaught of relief and grief about not being able to do this again.”

Given the stresses that likely came with being one of the world’s most recognizable actors, it’s easy to understand why Kit must felt the need to unplug for a little while. Our entire staff wishes him all the best in his recovery.

HBO’s Emmy Award-winning fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’, which first premiered on April 17, 2011, concluded its record-shattering eight-season run on Sunday, May 19, 2019.
