Natalie Portman, born Natalie Hershlag on June 9, 1981, in Jerusalem, is an American Academy Award-winning actress who is perhaps best known for portraying Padmé Amidala in the second Star Wars trilogy.
Born in Jerusalem, Portman was eventually raised in Long Island, New York. When she was just a teenager, she was cast as Padmé Amidala, a role she would go on to play in three Star Wars films: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
Her appearances in the Star Wars films instantly made her an internationally known star, as she went on to appear in various films such as Garden State, V for Vendetta, The Darjeeling Limited, The Other Boleyn Girl, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, New York, I Love You, and The Other Woman.
In the year 2010, Portman portrayed Nina Sayers in the Darren Aronofsky film Black Swan, a role that earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
