Robert Pattinson has been cast as Bruce Wayne / Batman in Matt Reeves upcoming DC film, The Batman, according to Variety.
Pattinson fills the empty cowl left by Ben Affleck, who vacated the role following appearances in Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League. At just 32-years-old, Pattinson will be the youngest actor to ever portray the iconic Gotham City superhero.
At this time, not much is known about the film, as it has been in development for some time and has gone through several rewrites. Furthermore, Warner Bros. has not confirmed when production will begin, although souces tell Variety that filming could begin in “late 2019 or early 2020”.
No other casting announcements for The Batman have been made at this time.
The Batman, which Reeves will produce with his Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark, will be released in United States theaters on June 25, 2021.
Reeves, the director of Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes, took over directing duties of The Batman in February 2017.
