Marlen Ochoa-Uriostegui was the victim of a horrific crime in Chicago. According to reports, Ochoa-Uriostegui’s body was found outside of a home on Wednesday, May 15, after she had been missing since April 23. The 19-year-old was found strangled to death inside a trash can.
Her official cause of death was ruled “ligature strangulation.”
The Chicago-Tribune reports that Ochoa-Uriostegui, who was nine months pregnant, had her child cut from her womb after her death.
“We believe that she was murdered and we believe that the baby (was) forcibly removed following that murder,” Chicago Police Department’s chief spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
Following her death, a woman had called 911 and had claimed that she just gave birth to a child at home. She went so far as to set up a GoFundMe account that raised more than $9,000 for “medical expenses.” The child remains on life support.
A neighbor detailed the suspected murderer’s account after the 911 call.
“I said, “What’s up?’ and she said, ‘I just had the baby. It’s not breathing,”‘ the neighbor told the Chicago Sun-Times. “She said, ‘I stood up and the baby came out.’ Before she left in an ambulance, she told me several times, ‘Please call up someone to come and lock the house.'”
Ochoa-Uriostegui was married with a 3-year-old son.
The baby who was cut from her womb was reportedly on life support at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with no brain function, but the police and fire departments have not officially commented on the situation at this time.
