Amara Karan, born in London, England on January 1, 1984, in an English actress who is best known for her role as Rita in the 2007 Wes Anderson-directed comedy-drama The Darjeeling Limited and as Chandra Kapoor in the HBO limited drama series The Night Of.
Karan, who was born in Wimbledon to Sri Lankan parents, attended and graduated from Wimbledon High School. Following her graduation from Wimbledon High School, Karan went on to attend St. Catherine’s College in Oxford.
While studying at St. Catherine’s College, Karan began acting when she started appearing in amateur plays. Additionally, Karan wrote, acted in, directed, and produced the short film By Myself while studying at St. Catherine’s College.
Following her graduation from St. Catherine’s College, Karan initially began her professional career as an investment banker at Hawkpoint and CIBC World Markets.
It was during this time that Karan obtained an MA degree in acting from The Arts Educational Schools London.
Karan made her professional acting debut during the year 2007 when she appeared as Rita in the 2007 Wes Anderson comedy The Darjeeling Limited, her most recognizable role to date.
