Born in the British territory of Bermuda in October 1973, Headey and her family moved back to the mainland when she was five-years-old when they moved to Somerset, England. Six-years later, when she was 11-years-old, Heady and her family moved to Huddersfield.
Headey began acting while attending Shelley College and was discovered when she was just 17-years-old when performing at the Royal National Theatre.
The biggest break of Headey’s career came when she was cast as Cersei Lannister on the iconic, Emmy Award-winning HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones. In fact, Headey actually landed the role of Cersei Lannister thanks to Peter Dinklage, who recommended her for the role to HBO executives after he was cast as Tyrion Lannister.

Playing Cersei Lannister — one of the main characters on Game of Thrones — Headey became an international acting star. However, Headey was one of Game of Thrones accomplished actors at the time of her casting, as she had previously appeared in films such as The Jungle Book, Ripley’s Game, The Brothers Grimm, and 300.
Prior to Game of Thrones, Headey appeared in a variety of movies such as Century, Face, The Man with Rain in His Shoes, The Actors, The Cave, Imagine Me & You, Gossip, and The Contractor.
Additionally, Headey appeared in multiple TV shows prior to her Game of Thrones fame, such as White Collar, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Merlin, The Hunger, The Gathering Storm, and more.

@rebelparkproductions thanks for letting me have a say in shedding light on some of the shitty audition moments. When you’re deeply connected to a character and yet you just aren’t skinny/tall/muscular/white/Black/young/pretty/flirty/happy/sexy…. enough. #leadingladyparts was a fun day filled with glorious women who are BEYOND ENOUGH in every sense. I picked Michelle Fairley for my leading lady. Her work is always deeply authentic. Her kindness and support and wisdom are always on hand
