Fatimih Dávila Sosa, a former Miss Uruguay, was found dead in her hotel in Mexico City, according to reports. The 31-year-old model was found hanging in the bathroom and police are currently investigating her death to determine whether she committed suicide or was the victim of a murder.
Davila Sosa’s body was found on Thursday, May 2.
According to Spanish media reports, Davila Sosa may have had ties to a high-end escort ring. Her name previously came in front of authorities during a 2012 book about sex-trafficking.
The New York Post adds:
No one was ever brought to trial in the case, but the book by journalist Javier Benech said models were lured into the network with the promise of fame and more job opportunities, according to El Pais. The ring allegedly tried to convince young models and pageant queens that sleeping with powerful men would boost their careers.
Investigators reportedly wiretapped one of the operation’s associates and recorded his conversations with Davila Sosa. The former beauty queen allegedly told him she spoke with the network’s leader about how to “to make myself more well-known” since “nobody cares about the Miss Uruguay title,” according to Benech.
Following her Miss Uruguay win in 2006, Davila Sosa had been working as a model. Davila Sosa was in Mexico City ahead of a planned job interview. She reportedly arrived in Mexico City on April 23. The model and actress also starred in the Mexican telenovela El Triunfo del Amor.
Our deepest condolences are with Davila Sosa’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult and tragic time as the authorities continue to investigate her untimely passing.
