With a new Avicii album on its way, we were treated to the first posthumous single from the late-DJ on Wednesday, April 10 when the new single “SOS” dropped. The track features Aloe Blacc and serves as the first single from his posthumous album Tim — which will be released on June 6.
Blacc previously was featured on the 2013 Avicii hit “Wake Up.”
“I feel like ‘SOS’ was a song that was probably ahead of its time for when he wrote it,” Blacc said in a statement. “He wrote these lyrics obviously about some of his battles and I think it’s a really important topic to approach and to share, especially with his visibility and his access to ears and hearts. To give people the words to be able to say, ‘I need help.'”
All proceeds from the upcoming Tim album will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation. The nonprofit organization was started following Avicii’s untimely death to raise money for suicide prevention and organizations dedicated to fighting mental illness.
Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, passed away in Muscat, Oman at the age of 28-years-old due to an apparent suicide. Avicii was perhaps best known for his hit singles “Levels”, released in 2011, and “Wake Me Up” with Aloe Blacc, which was released in 2013. He released two studio albums — 2013’s “True” and 2015’s “Stories” — before announcing in 2016 that he would be retiring from touring.
