Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle have been identified as the New York City couple who went missing during a vacation in the Dominican Republic in late March.
According to a report from NBC New York, Moore and Ravenelle departed out of Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, New Jersey, for a Dominican Republic vacation on Saturday, March 23, with plans to return that same week on Wednesday, March 27.
However, the couple did not return as planned and has not been seen since, leaving the family “very worried”, according to The New York Post.
“Of course, I’m worried. Authorities are working on it. I don’t know anything,” Ravenelle’s mother said to The New York Post.
The couple, who were staying at the Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa in Samana, reportedly checked out of the hotel as scheduled on March 27 but never made it to the airport for their flight. Additionally, their rental car was never returned and both of their cell phones have been turned off.
John Hollis, a neighbor of Orlando Moore’s, described the New York City-based mailman as “very responsible.”
In a statement, a representative for the United States State Department told The New York Post that they “stand ready to provide appropriate assistance to US citizens in need and to their families.
Manuel Mateo, the captain of the Dominican Republic’s National Police, said that the investigation into Moore’s and Ravenelle’s disappearance remains ongoing at this time.
Our thoughts are with Moore’s and Ravenelle’s friends, family, and various loved ones during this difficult time, as we hope for the couple’s safe return.
