Netflix has executed another entertainment industry power move, this time by dropping a trailer for a documentary about arguably the world’s most famous woman: Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé.
According to Netflix, Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé is an “intimate, in-depth look at Beyoncé’s celebrated 2018 Coachella performance reveals the emotional road from creative concept to cultural movement.”
This is not the first Beyoncé-focused documentary, as her self-directed doc Life Is But a Dream first premiered on HBO back in 2013. Similarly, three of her world tours were turned into concert documentaries: “The Beyoncé Experience Live,” “Beyoncé’s I Am… World Tour,” and “The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.”
However, Homecoming is said to be a more intimate look at Beyoncé’s life and creative process, similar to Life Is But a Dream .
Life Is But a Dream was an autobiographical documentary about Beyoncé’s life, directed by Beyoncé, which is… a little self-fulling, but who am I to judge the Queen Bee? Plus, the last thing anyone needs in their lives is the wrath of the Bee Hive (or whatever they’re called, is it Bey Hive?).
The trailer release also comes amid speculation that she’s working on a new studio album, as it’s been three years since her last full album, 2016’s iconic Lemonade.
Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé, which is also directed by Beyoncé Knowles, will premiere exclusively on Netflix on Wednesday, April 17, 2019.
