Lil Nas X disrupted the Billboard Country Music charts with his viral hit “Old Town Road.” It was kicked off of the charts for not being country enough, but now he has called on the legendary Billy Ray Cyrus to get the country stamp of approval with an official remix.
On Friday, April 5, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus teamed up to drop the “Old Town Road (Remix)” which should put it back on the country radar.
The remix opens with Billy Ray Cyrus singing the chorus and includes a new verse with Cyrus flexing his vocals.
Cyrus sings:
Hat down, cross town, livin’ like a rockstar
Spent a lot of money on my brand new guitar
Baby’s got a habit, diamond rings and Fendi sports bras
Ridin’ down Rodeo in my Maserati sports car
Got no stress, I’ve been through all that
I’m like a Marlboro man so I kick on back
Wish I could roll on back to that old town road
I wanna ride ’til I can’t no more

In late March, Billboard removed Lil Nas X’s song from the country charts and rationalized their decision by saying the track lacked enough country elements to be considered.
“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard‘s country charts,” they told Rolling Stone. “When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”
We will see who has the last laugh now, but our vote has to go to the two fellas who are pictured below.
