Lauren Miranda, a 25-year-old South Country School District teacher in Bellport, Long Island, has made national headlines after she was fired from her teaching job following her students’ discovery of an old nude mirror selfie.
The photo was reportedly originally taken and sent to Miranda’s romantic partner, who was also a teacher in the South Country School District, back in 2016.
Miranda claims to have never posted to the illicit image online and stated that “how it got out is the million dollar question.”
Following her dismissal, Miranda said that she intends to sue the school district for $3 million for alleged gender discrimination.
John Ray, an attorney for Miranda, says that his client is the victim of a double-standard and that this would not have happened if she were a male.
“Long ago, she sent her topless unremarkable selfie to her companion, never to anyone else. By unknown means, a student obtained it. The school district took possession of it, excoriated her, and fired her because her breasts were displayed,” Ray stated.
“Anytime a man has ever exposed his chest, no one has ever commented or had any problem with it whatsoever. But when a woman displays her chest, as happened here, she gets fired from her job,” Ray continued.
Miranda agrees with her lawyer’s assessment of the situation, saying that “if a male teacher’s nipples were displayed, there would be no punishment.”
