Jodie Comer, born on March 11, 1993, in Liverpool, is an English actress who is best known for her star turn as Villanelle, the main antagonist on the critically-acclaimed BBC America series Killing Eve.
Prior to being recognized for her role as the assassin Villanelle on Killing Eve, Comer was known for her work as Chloe Gemell in the comedy-drama series My Mad Fat Diary, Ivy Moxam in the miniseries Thirteen, and Elizabeth of York in the miniseries The White Princess.
Born in Liverpool, Comer graduated from St Julie’s Catholic High School. While attending St Julie’s Catholic High School, a performance at a local talent show earned Comer an audition for a BBC Radio 4 play, thus beginning her acting career.
Her first professional acting role came when she appeared as Leanne in a 2008 episode of the English TV show The Royal Today.
During the course of her career, Comer has acted almost exclusively on television, appearing in series such as Holby City, Waterloo Road, Justice, Doctors, Silent Witness, Good Cop, Casualty, Coming Up, Law & Order: UK, Vera, Inspector George Gently, Remember Me, Doctor Foster, Thirteen, Rillington Place, and The White Princess.
Comer’s lone acting appearance in a major motion picture came in the 2017 film England Is Mine, which is a satirical biography of Morrissey prior to his career with The Smiths.
In the year 2018, Comer’s professional acting career took a leap into the stratosphere when she began starring as Villanelle, the main antagonist on the critically-acclaimed BBC America series Killing Eve opposite Sandra Oh.
For her work as Villanelle, Comer has been nominated at the British Academy Television Awards, National Television Awards, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, Television Critics Association Awards, and the Gold Derby Awards.
