As promised yesterday by director Todd Phillips, Warner Bros. has dropped the first epic teaser trailer for the upcoming Joaquin Phoenix-starring origin story, Joker.
Joker, which is set in the year 1981, follow’s Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck character as he “disregarded by his society” and “turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City.”
Unlike recent Warner Bros. and DC movies, Joker will not take place in the DCEU and will be a much more “adult” and “dark” take on the character, similar to what Fox did with Wolverine in Logan.
Early reactions to the trailer have been overwhelmingly positive, with fans praising the tone and atmosphere of the Todd Phillips-directed flick.
In addition to Phoenix in the titular role, Joker also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Shea Whigham, and others.
Joker will be released in theaters on Friday, October 4, 2019, in the United States, although showings will begin on the evening of Thursday, October 3.
