Amy Lappos, 43-years-old, has accused former Vice President Joe Biden of inappropriately touching her at a 2009 fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Speaking to Connecticut newspaper the Hartford Courant, Lappos said that Biden’s touch “wasn’t sexual” but “he did grab me by the head.”
Lappos alleges that the incident happened in 2009 when she was volunteering at a fundraiser for Rep. Jim Himes in Greenwich. Himes is currently serving in his sixth term as a Connecticut congressman.
“He put his hand around my neck and pulled me in to rub noses with me. When he was pulling me in, I thought he was going to kiss me on the mouth,” Lappos told the Hartford Courant.
According to the Hartford Courant, Lappos — who used the pseudonym Alice Paul — posted about her allegations against Biden on her Facebook page.
“Biden did something similar to me at a fundraiser in Greenwich when I was a congressional aide. I’m really disappointed to see this [Facebook] post ask ‘thoughts’ as if the grossness of men invading women’s boundaries to sniff and touch is debatable. And shame on some of the women here excusing this as boys being boys or it’s not as bad as Trump. I can speak from experience when I say it’s an incredibly uncomfortable situation and not at all acceptable. We need to hold our men to the same standards we hold all men,” Lappos wrote in a Facebook post.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 31, Biden reiterated that he has a strong record of supporting women.
“I will also remain the strongest advocate I can be for the rights of women. I will fight to build on the work I’ve done in my career to end violence against women and ensure women are treated with the equality they deserve,” Biden said.
