UFC megastar Conor McGregor is reportedly being investigated for the alleged sexual assault of a woman in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland. According to a report from the Irish Mirror, “a famous Irish sports star” is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault that happened on Monday, December 10. The woman was taken to the Rotunda Hospital’s Sexual Assault Treatment Unit.

The incident allegedly occurred at the Beacon Hotel on the edge of Dublin.

“The woman turned up at a south Dublin garda station and made a complaint of rape,” a source told the paper.

“Officers then took her to the SATU at the Rotunda Hospital for an examination. The case was then transferred to gardai at Pearse Street as the incident is alleged to have taken place at a hotel in the city center. A team of officers under senior gardai are carrying out investigations. They’ll have to check for CCTV footage and the possible crime scene. It allegedly happened between 11:30pm and 3:30am after she went to a hotel room with the alleged attacker.”

Now, the New York Times appears to be confirming the reports.

McGregor has not been charged with a crime at this time, but he was reportedly arrested in January and questioned by investigators before being released pending further investigation.

The news comes after McGregor took to social media in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday, March 26, to announce he has decided to retire from mixed martial arts. The 30-year-old McGregor’s announcement comes on the heels of an another arrest for felony robbery in Miami Beach earlier in March.

“I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as ‘Mixed Martial Art’ today,” McGregor wrote in a post on Twitter. “I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!”

Just a year ago, McGregor was arrested on two felony charges in Brooklyn, New York for an incident at the Barclays Center where he through a hand truck through a window of a bus carrying other fighters, including rival Khabib Nurmagomedov. He reached a settlement in that case and was sentenced to three days of anger management courses and five days of community service.

McGregor (21-4) last competed in the UFC on October 6, 2018 against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Irishman suffered a submission loss via neck crank in the fourth-round of their fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It was McGregor’s first action inside of the UFC’s Octagon in nearly two years after taking a hiatus to face boxing star Floyd Mayweather inside of the square circle and additional time off for the birth of his first son with longtime girlfriend Dee Devlin.

McGregor was cleared to return to action after some legal issues due to an attack at UFC 223 in Brooklyn when he threw a dolly through a bus window that was carrying other fighters. He was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief, along with menacing and reckless endangerment at his arraignment and released on $50,000 bail.

Ultimately, McGregor pleaded no contest to a count of disorderly conduct and was ordered to perform five days of community service and attend anger management classes.
