Calvin Desir, a 16-year-old sophomore, has been identified as the second Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student to commit suicide in less than one week, according to the Daily Mail. Desir’s death came days after 19-year-old Sydney Aiello, a recent Parkland graduate, took her own life. Both students took their own lives with a gunshot wound to the head.
Family members set have up GoFundMe campaign to cover his funeral costs.
“He was a fellow student at Stoneman Douglas with strong aspirations of one day becoming an engineer, which inspired him to always find new projects around the house to challenge his skills,” the GoFundMe account reads in a message from his sister, Brittany Wright.
“Calvin was so loving and well loved by all his peers and family. He enjoyed riding his bike with his friends, shopping, cooking and trying new recipes with his mom, performing yard work and various chores with his dad and spending quality time with our baby sister and I. I can tell you firsthand that he was one of a kind, very soft spoken, and never once hurt a fly. If you ever asked him to do the simplest task, he was right on it. His selflessness and quick action to help others is something that we all deeply admired.”

Both Calvin and Sydney were students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida when a gunman open-fired at the school on February 14, 2018. A total of 17 students, teachers and coaches were killed during the mass shooting and an additional 17 were injured. The death toll has now been bumped to 19 following the deaths of Calvin and Sydney.
The killing spree is the deadliest high school shooting in United States history.
Our deepest condolences are with Calvin’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
