UFC welterweight Ben Askren scored a victory over former champion Robbie Lawler in his promotional debut at UFC 235, though it was not without controversy. Despite the controversial stoppage, Askren is riding the high of his first UFC win and that has led to some critics attempting to bring him down from his high.
Well, one of those detractors is Bellator fighter Dillon Danis, a training partner of former two-division champion Conor McGregor.
It all started from a recent interview on the Ariel Helwani show when Danis said he wants a piece of Askren, a former ONE Championship and Bellator MMA champion.
“I really want to go against Ben Askren,” Danis said, via MMAjunkie. “We should do a cross promotion. I’ll put up a million dollars vs. him because it would be the easiest fight ever. I would tap him so easy, Ariel. He’s so unathletic, and he’s so bad on the ground. A grappling match, that wouldn’t even be a match. That would be like 20-30 seconds. A fight, I would still beat him in the first round, but he wouldn’t want to fight me.”
As you might expect, Askren was paying attention and decided to start taking shots at the jiu-jitsu ace.
“The fact that @espnmma and @arielhelwani are giving this guy air time is kind of embarrassing. Couldn’t find anyone better than a 1-0 failed BJJ played to come on the show Ariel? If you are that desperate I will commit to a 20-minute weekly spot to help ratings,” Askren wrote.
Then, he began sending out a series of videos that all ended with “BOOM. Roasted.”
Askren even got a little bit personal, taking a shot at Danis’ time in high school. The top welterweight contender also mocked Danis for his close relationship with McGregor, asking who his daddy really was.
Then, we had Askren taking shots at Danis’ upcoming opponent and his bleached hairstyle which reminds us all of the “real Slim Shady.”
Well done, Ben Askren.
Now, he can focus on his next fight which currently is not scheduled.
