Mark Anthony Jones, a 46-year-old man from Indiana, found himself needing urgent medical treatment after a very unfortunate accident. Jones was reportedly walking near a Girl Scout cabin when a gun fell from his waistband. When Jones attempted to readjust the Hi Point 9mm handgun in his pants, it discharged and he ended up shooting himself in the genitals.

“Jones reported that he was walking on the walkway near the Girl Scout cabin. Jones reported that the Hi Point 9mm handgun he was carrying in his waistband (without a holster) began to slip,” said Marion Police Department’s deputy chief Stephen D Dorsey in a statement on Facebook. “The bullet entered just above his penis and exited his scrotum.”

Ouch.

To make matters worse, Jones could end up facing charges for the accidental shooting. Police sent the case to the Grant County prosecutor’s office after it was discovered that he does not have an Indiana handgun license. While it is illegal to carry a handgun without a license in the state of Indiana, it is surprisingly legal to carry a rifle or shotgun. If he does face a penalty for carrying the unlicensed firearm, Jones would likely receive a fine.

It is probably safe to say that Jones is happy he didn’t shoot himself below the belt with a shotgun, though.
