After Peaky Blinders was last on the air in late 2017, not much information about the hit BBC show — which has also found massive success in the United States thanks to Netflix –has been announced.

Given the now-global stature of the show, most of the details about the upcoming season have been kept under wraps, as is the case with most major television production such as Game Of Thrones and Westworld.

However, following an interview with Radio Times, series creator Stephen Knight has begun to shed more light on what the future holds for Tommy Shelby and co.

First, Knight revealed that that the fifth season, which is expected to premiere sometime this spring,  is set in the aftermath of the 1929 Wall Street Crash.

Additionally, Knight said that season five of Peaky Blinders — or as they call it across the pond, ‘series’ five — is going to be the “best series yet.”

“I personally believe – and I think everybody involved believes – that this is the best series yet, for all sorts of reasons,” Knight said.

“There’s a lot going on, there’s a lot of bells ringing, there’s a lot of conflict happening,” Knight continued as he described the upcoming season.

As for how the show plans to cope without star supporting actor Tom Hardy in the role of Alfie Solomons — who was *spoiler alert* killed at the end of season 4 — Knight compared the loss of the fan-favorite character to the loss of Chief Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill), who played a foil to Tommy Shelby in the first two seasons.

“It’s like when Sam Neill was no longer in it [the show]. That felt like a loss, but you move on. You have to,” Knight explained.

However, while Knight did well to substantially rev up hype for the show, he did not confirm when the show will be premiering in the United Kingdom or in the United States.

Peaky Blinders Season Five Release Date

At this time, the release date of Peaky Blinders season five has not been announced.  While the show is definitely going to air in 2019, it is not clear exactly when it will be hitting BBC and Netflix.
