UPDATE: Detric Lee McGowan, the man who was once viewed as a hero, has ended up arrested on drug charges.
From the New York Post:
News outlets report the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency says 46-year-old Detric Lee McGowan was arrested Tuesday on charges including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and cocaine. The agency says McGowan is the same man who appeared in a photo that garnered thousands of views and shares online.
Not all heroes wear capes. According to a report from CNN, a mystery man came to the rescue when temperatures were dropping low. The man saw Girl Scout cookies for sale and was ready to empty his wallet.
Initially, the man purchased seven packs of cookies from Emerson and Maya of Troop 1574 in Greenville, South Carolina.
Later in the night, the man returned.
It was then that the man spent $540 to buy the rest of the cookies so the two girls wouldn’t need to be standing out in the cold.
“What an amazing soul. It was about 34 degrees outside that night and we were there for about two hours already before he came,” troop cookie manager Kayla Dillard told CNN. “We all were shocked. The girls were very excited and thankful.”
Kayla added a photo on social media saying, “This man purchased 7 packs of cookies. Gave the girls $40, told them to keep the change. Then he came back to the table and said ‘pack up all of your cookies. I’m taking them all so y’all can get out of this cold.’ $540 he spent on cookies. What an amazing soul!!!!”
Let this be a quick reminder that there are still some kind people in this world.
