Oscar Nominated Movies 2019: Watch All 30 Movie Trailers

It’s almost time for the Oscar’s. There were many movies that stunned audiences and sent them on a rollercoaster of emotions. However, only a few were nominated for this coveted awards show.  There were some movies that received multiple nominations such as the hit foreign film Roma and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Queen Anne biopic The Favourite. Both movies lead with ten nominations each and both are nominees in the Best Picture category.

There are also other movies that have nabbed many nominations such as A Star is Born with 8 nominations. Black Panther is a first for its genre. A superhero movie has never been nominated for Best Picture. No matter the outcome the Academy Awards will prove to be a memorable night that celebrates the best in the film industry.

Best Picture

Black Panther

I’m sure most have seen this incredible Marvel movie, but just in case here’s the trailer for the King of Wakanda. This is the first superhero movie to be considered for Best Picture. Wakanda forever!

BlacKkKlansman

This movie was a heck of a thrill ride. With incredible performances and based off of a true story, it knows how to take audiences for quite the ride.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Who doesn’t love Queen? Also, Rami Malek is perfect to play Freddie Mercury, he seemed to almost transform into the iconic frontman for this legendary band. An incredible movie that highlights some of Queen’s most famous songs, it deserves to be on this list.

The Favourite

An incredible and dramatic story about Queen Anne. This was a truly stunning movie with phenomenal acting by Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, and Emma Stone.

Green Book

A lovely movie, and honestly you can’t go wrong when Mahershala Ali. It feels as though any movie he touches turns to gold. With incredible acting by Ali and Viggo Mortensen, it’s a truly moving movie that shines a light on race in the early 60s.

Roma

This movie has been praised by critics and audiences alike, and for good reason. One of the most stunning movies on this list with such a poignant story that’s so deep and personal. There’s a reason this film has ten nominations for the Academy Awards.

A Star Is Born

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is the duo we didn’t know we needed. The singing, the acting, the music, everything about this movie moved the audience to tears. Also, let’s not kid ourselves, we’ve been listening to the song ‘Shallows’ since we’ve

Vice

I can still hardly believe that’s Christian Bale playing Dick Cheney. In this gripping narrative about politics with phenomenal acting by Bale, it’s no wonder this picked up a nomination, for Best picture no less.

Best Adapted Screenplay

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Netflix sure doesn’t pull any punches. The moving film Roma is also on the streaming platform alongside this amazing Western film. If you love western movies this film is for you, it tells many different narratives all while taking place in the American West. A screenplay that knows how to juggle storylines properly, no wonder it’s nominated for this category.

Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Melissa McCarthy is phenomenal in this role and she breathes life into the character. Based on a true story, Can You Ever Forgive Me tackles this interesting storyline or forgery and the pain of a writer trying to get recognized. A wonderful movie with a lot of heart and interesting twists and turns.

If Beale Street Could Talk

If Beale Street Could Talk is based on the James Baldwin novel with the same name. Baldwin is an incredible storyteller with poignant moments and captures the reality of Black Americans in the 70s. The movie takes his writing and transforms it into the moving masterpiece with this romantic drama.

BlacKkKlansman and A Star Is Born are also nominated for this category.

Best Animated Feature Film

Incredible 2

I’m sure everyone has seen this movie, after all, it was one of Disney and Pixar’s most anticipated movies in 2018. The first movie was a smash hit and the sequel proved to rise to incredibly high expectations. Though there is some stiff competition for this superhero family, it proves to be a solid contender on this list.

Isle of Dogs 

An animated movie about dogs? Sign me up! An adorable and loving piece about the pure love between a child and his dog. The twelve-year-old boy is determined to find his pet Spot, and make a lot of cute friends along the way.

Mirai

Anime will always be a weakness of mine and Mirai hit it out of the park. A loving story about a bratty boy who now has a new baby sister. He ends up meeting an older version of his sister who travels back in time. A movie that centers around the importance of family and care, it’s a truly moving film.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

Wreck it Ralph is back in this amazing sequel. He and his best friend Vanellope traverse the Internet in order to save her game. This movie is fun for the whole family with an important message of friendship that will move everyone.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse was a surprise hit film. It changes the dynamic of a comic book movie in its entirety. With stunning graphics and truly paying homage to comics with its art style and transitions, this movie was a fun ride for everyone.

Best Animated Short Film

Animal Behaviour

An interesting piece about group psychotherapy featuring animals. It meshes group therapy with the interesting and individual traits of these animals.

Bao

Bao was the opening short film to Incredible 2 and was met with massive success and praise from critics and audiences alike. Many praise the short film for portraying this moving tale with incredible detail to Asian culture.

Late Afternoon

A moving short film that follows an elderly woman as she travels through her memories to her past while also dealing with her present. The incredible music adds to its poignant scenes and makes this a strong contender for this category.

One Small Step

A beautiful short with incredible animation. This film is a tribute to the love of a father and daughter and what it means to chase your dreams. A moving message that is relatable to many people.

Weekends

A different animation and art style from the other’s on the list, but it’s no less breathtaking. It’s a personal story that also highlights Asian culture. It tells the story of a boy who goes from one parent to the other every weekend and how he eventually meets their new partners.

Best Live Action Short Film

Detainment

This film is based on a true story about the murder of James Bulger and the two young boys who tortured and killed him. There is a controversy surrounding this Oscar nomination as the film was created without the consent of the young James Bulger’s mother.

Fauve

A film about two boys who decide to see what the Quebec wilderness has in store. A lot of the tense moments in the film comes from the fears director Jeremy Comte has as he grew up in the countryside. An incredible tale that warns not to mess around with Mother Nature.

Marguerite

A moving piece about the friendship between a caretaker and an elderly woman. The caretaker inspires the elderly woman and, unknowingly, has her come face to face with her past and the longing she once had for another woman.

Mother

A short film that captures the intense and anxious moment when a parent lives through their worst nightmare. This mother receives a phone call from her six-year-old son Ivan and how he’s been abandoned at a beach. A powerful film that leaves us on the edge of our seats until the end.

Skin

An interesting and tense movie about a boy living with his white supremacist family. An innocent act of a black man making the boy laugh sparks an uproar and leads to bloodshed. This movie refuses to shy away from the reality of racism in America.

Best Visual Effects

Avengers: Infinity War

This is another one on the list that I’m sure most if not everyone has seen. The culmination of ten years’ worth of Marvel movies led to this epic battle that broke many hearts. With its incredible detail and CGI effects, this is certainly a tough contender in this category.

Christopher Robin

This movie pulls at our heartstrings. Winnie the Pooh, the iconic children’s character is back in this live-action iteration. With effects that bring this lovable bear and all his friends to life, it’s hard not to smile when you hear Jim Cummings speak as Pooh Bear.

First Man

A gripping story about Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. The special effects in this movie are top notch as they truly grasp the beauty and dangers of space exploration.

Ready Player One

A fun movie that merges fiction and reality. The use of CGI and special effects are second to none as they bring to life characters from other franchises while also building upon the main cast.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Star Wars is one of, if not the biggest movie franchises there is in the film industry. With an incredible budget and team, the movie delivers on the effects that people come to expect from this sci-fi franchise.
