On Tuesday, February 5, President Donald Trump addressed the nation with the 2019 State of the Union. Trump was initially scheduled to give his speech in January, but Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi postponed the State of the Union due to security concerns stemming from the partial government shutdown.
It will be Trump’s second State of the Union Address and his third speech to a joint session of the United States Congress.
This time around, however, the backdrop will be different with a Democrat (Pelosi) sitting in the Speaker of the House chair for the first time during his presidency. The seat was previously occupied by Paul Ryan. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appointed Stacey Abrams to deliver the Democratic response to 2019 State of the Union Address. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra will give the Spanish-language response.
If you missed out on the State of the Union, it’s not too late to see what Donald Trump had to say during his address.
