Natalie Portman — born Neta-Lee Hershlag on June 9, 1981, in Jerusalem, Israel, is an Israeli-American actress who is one of the biggest A-list actresses in Hollywood.
Born in Jerusalem, Portman’s family eventually moved back to the United States, living in cities such as Washington, D.C., Connecticut, and Long Island. Growing up on Long Island, New York, Portman graduated from Syosset High School in Syosset, Long Island in 1999.
However, Portman’s acting career began long before her high school career ended, as she made her first professional acting appearance in the 1994 film Léon: The Professional.
Following her appearance in Léon: The Professional, Portman starred in both Star Wars: Episode I and Anywhere but Here before graduating high school.
After graduating high school, Portman famously attended the prestigious Harvard University from 1999 to 2003, eventually graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Once she graduated from Harvard University, Portman leaned into acting full-time, starring in various major motion pictures such as
Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Closer, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, V for Vendetta, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Black Swan. For her performance in Black Swan Portman won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Later in her career, Portman went on to star in No Strings Attached, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Jackie, Knight of Cups, Jane Got A Gun, and Annihilation.
In addition to being a well-respected and Academy Award-winning actress, Portman is also a director, having directed the short film Eve in 2008 and the feature film A Tale of Love and Darkness in 2015.
Portman is married to dancer Benjamin Millepied. The couple shared two children together.
