Despite the fact that the film is very much currently in the midst of pre-production under director Matthew Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes), fans of Batman still don’t know who will be donning the iconic cape and cowl in the upcoming solo movie, The Batman.
As we all know, Ben Affleck has been the most recent actor to inhabit the character of Bruce Wayne, appearing as the Dark Knight in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League.
However, following the abysmal critical reviews of Suicide Squad and Justice League, Ben’s status in the DC Extended Universe has become far more precarious, with all indications seemingly pointing towards his exit from the franchise.
In a recent interview, while Reeves did dish on some of the details of his upcoming adaptation, he was generally mum on whether or not Ben Affleck would be returning to Gotham City.
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.
I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
As for exactly when fans can expect the movie to be released, Reeves said that they’re hoping for spring or summer of 2021.
The Batman Release Date
At this time, while no official release date has been confirmed, director Matt Reeves said he hopes the film will drop in “spring or summer” of 2021.
