Kelsie Schmidt, a 24-year-old former teacher at Beulah High School in North Dakota, has resigned following accusations that she sent naked photographs of herself to an underage student.
According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, after a report from a student that he had received “three or four” naked pictures from Schmidt on Snapchat in August of 2018, an investigation was launched that led to her arrest on Wednesday, January 23.
When speaking to Mercer County Sheriff’s Department investigators, Schmidt allegedly admitted to sending naked pictures to the unidentified teen.
Schmidt, who was a first-year teacher at Beulah High School, has been chared luring minors by computer or other means, which is a felony offense.
Travis Jordan, the superintendent of the Beulah Board of Education, said that the district had formally accepted Schmidt’s resignation on Friday, January 25.
During her first court appearance on Tuesday, January 29, Schmidt’s bond was set at $10,000. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27.
Schmidt is just the latest in a long line of school teachers, officials, or administrators that have been arrested and charged for sex-related crimes.
