Kehlani, born Kehlani Ashley Parrish on April 24, 1995 in Oakland, California, is an R&B recording artist who earned a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album with You Should Be Here. The mixtape, released in 2015, debuted at No. 5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Her first mixtape was released in 2014.
After her debut major-label album SweetSexySavage on January 27, 2017, she continued her rise to fame.
Kehlani has also been on a number of high-profile collaborations with artists like Eminem (“Nowhere Fast”), Cardi B (“Ring”), and KYLE (“Playingwithme). She has also opened on tour for acts like G-Eazy and Demi Lovato.
Before becoming a breakout star in the music industry, Kehlani practiced dance and hoped to train as a dancer at Julliard.
Both of her parents battled drug addiction, with her mother going in and out of jail and her father dying when she was an infant. Kehlani was raised by her aunt where she was exposed to influences like Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu.
She is expected to release her follow-up to SweetSexySavage in the near future and gave birth to her daughter in 2019.
