Maxwell Taffin, a student at LSU, was arrested by university police on Tuesday, January 8, for allegedly eating another student’s pet goldfish over two years ago.

According to the Louisiana State University police department, on October 22, 2016, Taffin, who was 18-years-old at the time, allegedly ate the pet fish of another student.

The arrest warrant states that the unnamed victim allowed her ex-boyfriend and two of his friends — one of which was Taffin — to stay in her Blake Hall dorm room following the LSU Tigers football game against Ole Miss.

When the victim returned to her dorm following the game, she allowed Taffin to run inside to retrieve his belongings. On his way out, Taffin allegedly said to the victim “check your fish tank.”

Upon checking the fish tank, the victim found that the fish was missing. She then later received a photo message from Taffin that showed feces in a toilet accompanied by the text “found your fish”.

When speaking to police, Taffin reportedly admitted to swallowing the victim’s pet.

Police finally arrested Taffin on Tuesday, January 8 — 810 days after the alleged crime — and charged him with cruelty to animals and improper telephone communications.
