Stefany Miley, a Clark County District Judge in Nevada, was arrested by Las Vegas police on charges of domestic violence after she allegedly assaulted her 18-year-old son.
According to reports from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Judge Stefany Miley was arrested around 11 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, after police responded to a report of domestic violence that was filed by the family’s attorney, Bruce Gale.
Gale, representing Stefany’s estranged husband Edward Miley, called the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department after receiving a message that the 18-year-old had originally sent to his father Edward:
“Call me now. I need help. Mom punched me in the mouth and hit me in the head while I was driving. I [am] bleeding and need you to pick me up. She started screaming around the neighbors and tried falling on me to make it look like I was hurting her.”
The Las Vegas Metropolitan police department said that the alleged assault that the teen is referring to happened around 6:45 p.m. in downtown Summerlin, Nevada.
The judge is in the midst of a divorce from Edward Miley, a family law and criminal defense attorney. One of his lawyers in the divorce, Bruce Gale, told the Review-Journal that he received a text message at 7:06 p.m. Saturday from Edward Miley, who had forwarded a message from his teenage son. Gale also said that the couple’s 8-year-old son was in the car at the time.
After reviewing Nevada’s Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers, Gale said, he spoke further with Edward Miley on Saturday night and then contacted police. Municipal court records show the incident was reported at 10:59 p.m.
Stefany Miley, who plans to “vigorously defending herself against these mere allegations”, was first elected to Family Court in 2004 before being elected to District Court in 2008.
Edward Miley reportedly filed for divorce in early 2018, claiming “catastrophic health issues” and requesting “spousal support.”
