About a week before Christmas 2018, news broke that Netflix was planning on dropping both a Black Mirror movie and the fifth season of the acclaimed drama sooner rather than later, specifically Bandersnatch.

The “movie” (or long episode, whichever you prefer) is titled Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and is set to be released on Friday, December 28.

The synopsis of Bandersnatch is as follows, according to Esquire:

The plot centers on a “young programmer [who] makes a fantasy novel into a game. Soon, reality and virtual world are mixed and start to create confusion.”

And as exciting as that is, some rumors seem to indicate that Black Mirror: Bandersnatch may be the highly-anticipated “choose-your-own-adventure” episode that has been in production for quite some time.

The Esquire report goes on to say that while Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is reportedly 90 minutes long, there are actually 312 minutes of interactive footage, which allows viewers to dictate the events of the film.

An image surfaced on the Black Mirror Reddit page which shows actors Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter and Asim Chaudhry, who plays ‘Chabuddy G’ on BBC comedy People Just Do Nothing.

With the plot based around a video game it seems to be a link to the 1984 title ‘Bandersnatch’ which was never released, and the premise of a fantasy world and reality blurring seems to reference the word Bandersnatch in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

The Netflix title card confirmed that the film is “set in the 80’s” which would make sense given that Bandersnatch was spotted on a poster giving notice of filming in Croydon One shopping centre, the same area where photographs emerged of retro refits of shop fronts such as WH Smith and Pizza Hut.
