A female Iowa gym teacher was arrested for being drunk on the job with a blood alcohol content level of .224 on Monday, December 17. The former educator was taught physical education at Jefferson Middle School in Dubuque. She is now charged with Public Intoxication.
What Happened?
Erin Ellerbach, 38, was allegedly drunk on the job Monday that administrators called the cops on her, police said.
An officer who questioned Ellerbach at the school said she smelled of alcohol, had red watery eyes and slurred her speech, according to KCRG. Ellerbach took a breath test and blew a blood alcohol content of .224, which is almost three times the legal number to drive.
School officials then searched Ellerbach’s office, where they found an opened 16 oz. can of Mike’s Harder Strawberry Lemonade and two more Mike Harder’s unopened cans, CBS2 reported. The popular alcoholic beverage contains eight percent of alcohol.
Ellerbach was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication.
According to KDTH, Ellerbach was placed on leave but has since fired from the district.
