There are reports of multiple victims after an active shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Reports indicate the shooting started at 4:18 p.m. ET and that there are multiple victims, including an officer. Police have said that gunshots were fired both inside and outside of Mercy Hospital.
At this time, reports indicate that the possible suspect “down” and there is no word on the motive. Police have asked civilians to avoid the area while they respond to the scene.
The officer involved in the shooting is reportedly in “critical” condition. The shooter has died.
What Happened?
Reports indicate that a still-unidentified active shooter fired shots inside and outside of the Mercy Hospital in Chicago’s South Side. Initial reports indicated that there were “multiple” victims as a result of the shooting, including a police officer.

A witness who was across the street at the time of the shooting said he heard six or seven gunshots that he initially thought were sounds from nearby construction. He said he saw a large police presence arrive at the hospital shortly after, and people running out of the hospital.
Witnesses who spoke to ABC7 Chicago outside the hospital said they heard a flurry of gunshots, as many as 10 to 20, causing them to duck beneath cars and hide.
Mercy Hospital is located at 2525 Michigan Avenue in Bronzeville near the intersection of 25th and Michigan Avenue in Chicago’s South Side neighborhood.
The reports of an active shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, is the is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.
Despite all of the recent shooting deaths in the United States, the nation’s government has yet to make any changes to our laws to better ensure the safety of the population.
