Delindsey Dwayne Mack has been identified as the student who was gunned down near Lamar High School on Tuesday, November 13. The 18-year-old Mack was walking during lunch period when he was shot multiple times. The incident is believed to be the latest killing in a gang war, according to KTRK in Houston.
Mack was walking with a 15-year-old girl who was also struck by a bullet.
“Once the suspect fired upon the male and female, the male went down. That suspect stood over that individual and fired more shots,” Houston Police Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner said.
Mack died from his injuries at the hospital.
From the report:
The gunman, wearing a mask, got out and fired about a dozen times. Mack was rushed to the hospital, where he died. Police sources tell Eyewitness News the fatal shooting was retaliatory and gang-related, after back and forth shootings between rival gangs in recent weeks. The violence sent Lamar into lockdown mode and led to a show of force by police at Ben Taub Hospital, where Mack died.
The killer, who was reportedly in the car with two other individuals, is still at large.
“The city of Houston will not tolerate gang activity or any senseless violence on our streets, especially not the kind that targets young people. Our children are off limits. I want parents and students to feel protected and confident while they are near or inside a school,” Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a statement of his own, via KHOU-11.
Our deepest condolences go out to Mack’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult and tragic time.
