New Jersey state police say the body of Ronald Vega, a college student who went missing last month, has been found near a swamp area in southern New Jersey. At this time, police do not know Vega’s cause of death. He was a student at nearby Cumberland College.
Vega, a 28-year-old man from Millville, New Jersey, was last seen May 24 and had been reported missing by his family that same day. In the following days and weeks, authorities conducted several land and air searches near the marsh area in Fairfield Township, where his car had been found abandoned.
According to NJ.com, New Jersey State Police Spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez confirmed on Thursday, June 7, that Vega’s body was found near the marsh on Monday, June 4.
Furthermore, Goez said that the incident remains under investigation and that Vega’s body has been turned over to the Office of the Medical Examiner. The Southern Regional Medical Examiner will examine Vega’s body to determine a cause and manner of death.
A GoFundMe was launch by the family in an effort to raise $10,000 to cover his funeral expenses.
via GoFundMe:
Ronald Vega, my beloved son, was one of the most kind hearted loving souls I’ve ever had encountered. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting him knows that when he walked into the room he would bring joy and laughter with him.
He cared so deeply about making sure that everyone felt loved and was okay. He would have taken the shirt off of his own back to give it to someone else in need. He would never pass judgement on others. It pains me greatly to inform his friends and acquaintances that he has passed away.
Due to his death being so unexpected we do not have the funds to cover the funeral services. Any donations would be greatly appreciated no matter how small. As much as a simple share would make a difference.
At the time of this writing, the GoFundMe had just over $3,300.
