Alden Ehrenreich is a relative newcomer to the Hollywood scene, but he’s already made bigger waves than his short filmography would suggest. Discovered through sheer dumb luck by Steven Spielberg, he’s had the honor of working with some of Hollywood’s most elite auteurs who’ve managed to craft this acting school dropout into a leading man worthy of inheriting the role of Han Solo from Harrison Ford.
Still, he’s known to come fairly cheap as far as big-screen stars go and even if he’s worked with some of the best of the best, he hasn’t been working all that long. So just how valuable is Hollywood’s new pretty boy lead?
Alden Ehrenreich Net Worth As Of 2018: $3.5 Million
Ehrenreich has more money than most of us, but at this time doesn’t have the legacy that allows other actors to demand higher salaries. Still, his net worth, as reported by the likes of Frostsnow, Muzul and Taddlr, is nothing to shake a stick at and is reflective of the work he’s put in on the passion projects he’s shared with some of the greatest directors of our time. If his career trajectory continues on its current trend, it’s not hard to see Ehrenreich ruling Hollywood as its unofficial king sometime in the future.
2004-2015
Born on November 22, 1989 in Los Angeles, Ehrenreich was named after Field of Dreams director Phil Alden Robinson, ensuring that film would always be a part of his life. He was raised by his mother and stepfather through high school and then attended NYU as an acting student, but never graduated. When he was 14, Alden made a brief comedy video for a friend’s bat mitzvah.
He didn’t know it at the time, but in attendance at the screening was prolific and revered director Steven Speilberg who as impressed by the young man’s energy and screen presence. Speilberg helped Ehrenreich get an agent who in turn scored him a few brief roles on Supernatural and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
It wasn’t until 2009, however, that Alden got his break with a starring role in the Francis Ford Coppola-led film Tetro. The film and Alden received mostly positive reviews, leading to him teaming up with Coppola again for Twixt and working with Sophia Coppola. It wasn’t until 2013 though that Ehrenreich hit his stride. He starred in the lackluster Beautiful Creatures and worked with Woody Allen on Blue Jasmine.
2016-Present
Alden finally broke into the mainstream in 2016 with the Coen Brothers’ comedy Hail, Ceasar!. He drew rave reviews for his hilarious and sympathetic portrayal of Hobie Doyle, a simple Western action star in over his head during a 1950s Hollywood scandal. It was almost certainly this role that put him on the shortlist to play a young Han Solo in the stand-alone Star Wars film, Solo.
The reveal that Alden got the part was met with apprehension by the public. Harrison Ford himself had previously come forward saying that the film sounded like a bad idea and a fairly jaded movie-going audience was inclined to agree with him. The stories that emerged from the production in the succeeding months did nothing to quell fans’ anxiety.
By mid-2017, the original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who had cast Ehrenreich to begin with, had left the project entirely due to “creative differences” and Ron Howard had been tapped to take over the production. First order of business: get Ehrenreich an acting coach. Alden’s take on the character had apparently not met Lucasfilm executives’ expectations and Howard hired outside aides to help Ehrenreich emulate Harrison Ford’s innate charisma and delivery.
Thankfully, despite the tumultuous production, early reviews of Solo have been largely positive with generous amounts of praise being heaped on Ehrenreich’s performance. Ford himself appeared to give the film and its star his unofficial blessing. The force may be strong with this one yet.
